Barf, what some people do..

I was watching animal cops miami last night on animal planet and there was a case on there about people who were stealing animals and slaughtering them for meat.. then leaving them on the side of a road or somewhere..
Disgusting! Vile and dispicable!
Later in the show the Animal cops follow up on a lead about a group of hispanics who had just slaughtered a stallion in a driveway and cut up the body with a chainsaw. When asked why they did it they said that the horse had broken both of its legs (yeah right!) in an illegal horse race and had to be 'put down.' When the investigators looked in the pen next to where the horse was killed they found two horrified mares (not sure if they were both mares) one of which had blood spatters all over her from where the stallion was murdered. They were on a completely muddy lot, no grass in site, when the investigators were loading them you could see these horses were very well taken care of, their manes and tails were like silk, their coats were shiny and they basically looked like show horses. I didnt get to watch the rest of the show but i am 99% certain those horses didnt belong to a group of male hispanics who illegal streetrace horses and keep them on a muddy lot devoid of food. Which means that they were probably stolen from a loving home somewhere, taken to this place and set in line to be slaughtered! It is absolutely ENRAGING to think that this could happen to any horse, including mine. Granted this is a rare case, it still makes my blood boil. They found a disposable camera with blood all over it in the trashbags with the horses remains in it! These SICK people were taking pictures of it!!
The cops arrested two of the guys who took part in the slaying, i think the law is that animals had to be humanely euthanized by a vet or something.. they face a hefty fine and up to 10 years in jail. And i HOPE they get that sentence!! There arent too many stories that make me say 'wow, that is rough!' because i have seen alot on that show, but this just stuck with me.

ive never heard anything so horrifying...ok i have but for some reason these stories still hit me just as bad...those poor things and i feel awful for the families of the stolen horses (if they were stolen which seems likely).

those shows are too much for me to watch anymore

How sad!! Its amazing how people can chop up horses and eat them. The worst part is they usualy suffer before they get killed. Did any of u see the animal cops where the miniture ponies were being killed? I cried.

I saw that episode as well. Very disgusting scenario. There really aren't any words that can truly describe it...

The thing I kind of took offense to was how you kept mentioning a "group of Hispanics", because my mother is half Hispanic (Panamanian) and I am very proud of my Latin heritage. I think it would be a little more polite if you just mentioned them as "a group of people". Because no matter what race those people were, what they did was horrendous. Race has nothing to do with it. Absolutely nothing. It's the individual. White, black, red, yellow, whatever.

Not sure if you meant it in that way or not, but I just wanted to clear it up a little. Please don't take it as me trying to be rude or mean about it, since I don't know what you really meant by it. I'm sure you understand me feeling a little concerned about the way it was written.

As far as people eating horses, it's definitely not something I support or enjoy, but people mass murder cows. So why is it ok for people to eat cows but not horses or dogs? I am completely against any kind of animal torture. I'm a tree hugger and an animal lover. I will fight till I drop for animal rights. BUT, if the animal is not stolen, and is HUMANELY killed, I wouldn't be against it. I also feel animals used for food shouldn't be fed anything that could cause harm to their bodies, or ours. Like feeding them high grain diets instead of forage, or adding chemicals to their bodies. Mostly, I just wish red meat wasn't in such high demand that people were trying so hard to basically mass produce them for the sole purpose of living poor lives and getting killed. And, then our woodlands are being destroyed too.

they were in fact a group of hispanics, i used no slang there, but it was the truth in the episode. i am not racist at all, i want to make this clear, if they were russian i would have said so, if they were american i would have said so. hispanic is not a derogitory term.
As for the others stuff, it isnt wrong to eat any animal in my opinion BUT it IS wrong to STEAL someones beloved horse and to top that off SLAUGHTER them improperly. Its not only against the law it is wrong! That was the issue here, i would eat a person if it were legal, so its not about 'omg you can't eat horses!'
Its about a horse being stolen from someones back yard, taken to a garage and being quartered with a chainsaw...

Oh no no, I know what YOUR POST was about and what the issue of the episode was about. I was not suggesting you were saying eating horses was wrong. I KNOW your point was that stealing and butchering a horse like that was wrong, and I COMPLETELY agree.

I was just going off on my own little separate rant that was kind of related to what you were talking about in your post. I also understand you weren't using slang and that it was the truth, because I have seen that exact same episode.

Alright, I just wasn't sure. Because most people that I know would have said "a group of people" if they were white people, and then if it were a black or hispanic group, they'd say so. I wish people would take out the "race" group, and just say PEOPLE, because we're all children of God and I wish it were more that way.

I apologize if I seemed like I was attacking you in any way , I didn't mean it to come off like that. I was just checking! lol

I agree with this whole heartedly! I do not think that the op meant anything by it though.

When people that I know say stuff like this (making it a point to make mention of someone's race), I ask them, would you have made a point to say that they had been brunette? Or that they were wearing blue? If not, then you shouldn't have a need to point out their race either.

Where they really able to prove that they were stolen?

They all seemed to be in decent health... I didn't see anything skinny.

I have nothing against anyone who kills any animal for food. Even if its a horse. People kill hogs and chickens in their back yards every day. It's food.

Why would them racing their horses be any more cruel than any other horse race?

I seriously doubt those two other horses where "horrified". Give me a break. Human emotions not horse emotions.

I saw that episode and I was mostly mad at the stupid comments the "Animal Cops" were making.

I've seen alot of abuse cases on those shows and this one really didnt scream out to me as being that bad.

I mean if the horses were stollen, YES, thats horrable... But otherwise you should be able to kill and eat whatever you want in your own backyard.

As far as the illigal racing goes... whatever... to each his own. At least it wasnt a dog fight or a C.o.c.k fight. Running a horse... who would have ever thought... oh the humanity!

I lived around the Hispanic culture growing up in Southern Florida. I can imagaine their side of the story. Here is a horse that we've fed and invested money in that has just been injured to the point where it will not live. Red Meat. Lets eat it.

I certainly think the smell of blood was distressing to the other horses, not to mention the sight of another horse being slaughtered and cut up in front of them would be frightening (just like seeing a herdmate being attacked by a predator would be). I certainly believe horses suffer emotionally when a friend dies, especially traumatically (don't if the horse was a "friend" of theirs, but still....)
