I agree that the smell of blood and the sight of another horse being killed must have been very unnerving to the other two horses.

If they race a horse, I just wouldn't like it if it was illegal or if the surfaces they were riding on was hard.

I don't think they were going to eat the horse, I think they just wanted to dispose of the body.

I agree with you! That if you are going to kill to eat, then that's fine. I also agree that if it was stolen, then it would be horrendous. BUT, if the WAY you kill that animal is in a way that made it suffer greatly for an amount of time, then I believe that is very, very wrong. Which is why when I get older I want to see if there is anything I can do to help about the way people butcher cows, hogs, chicken, etc.

Dawn, thank you!

I didnt see the episode, but I can assure you of this, if they were going to eat the horse they would have skinned it before they cut it up. So if the carcass had hair on it they were just trying to get rid of it.

As for the others stuff, it isnt wrong to eat any animal in my opinion BUT it IS wrong to STEAL someones beloved horse and to top that off SLAUGHTER them improperly. Its not only against the law it is wrong! That was the issue here, i would eat a person if it were legal, so its not about 'omg you can't eat horses!'
Its about a horse being stolen from someones back yard, taken to a garage and being quartered with a chainsaw...

I'm soooooo not tring to start anything but................Quote you said " its wrong to steal someones beloved horse and to top that off SLAUGHTER THEM IMPROPERLY" Are you kidding me is there a Proper way to SLAUGHTER???

Anyway I saw that episode also and the two they got in time went on to good homes!! Yeah my b/friend isn't a huge horse lover but even he said someone should of been shot for that one!!

Yes, there is a difference in humane slaughter and slaughter that is more like torture. There is a big difference between giving a cow a quick bullet to the head and doing something like slowly stabbing it to death. Or, the difference between horse slaughter in Canada and the way horses are slaughtered in Mexico.

I agree. Horses are no more important than any living creature, in my eyes, although they are my favorite hands down. I think ALL animals deserve to be raised properly and naturally to a decent age, and humanely killed when used for food. If lions are allowed to hunt, and if gorillas and baboons are allowed to kill for their meat sources, then we as people, in my opinion, can eat meat as well. And I will never go to say that killing cows is ok but killing horses isn't, because they are all important and deserve a good life.

Miss Criss, if you watched the episode apparently the horse racing that they claimed to be doing was in fact illegal.
anyway... refer to my last thread and you'll find that horses have the same capacity to feel the same way humans do. We in fact share the same emotions. The only difference between us and horses are the technical aspects of our natures (planning a lunch, talking about the weather).. of which they arent capable.

Like I said I wasn't tring to start anything. Its just my opioion that horses ARE different from cows. Do you go to the market and buy horse meat??? I guess its just the word "SLAUGHTER". It makes me want to spit up alittle!!!!I don't know everyone has a opioion and mine is that horses are special. I guess I just view Horses as pets just as I do cats or dogs, and I would never Slaughter them improperly or so called properly. As far as animals in the wild (Lions baboons etc.) I don't think they have any other option then to kill on there own!!!
I'm just glad the two horses they saved will have good homes!!! Thats the important thing!!

I saw that episode as well, and I was just as disgusted, angered and horrified as the next person!! The people who have so little concern for the life around them, don't deserve the life they have and live. That's just my Gawds honest opinion, whether anyone likes it or not.

And, YES.....horses DO experience all the same feelings and sensations that we as people do!!!

I hope those guys rot in prison for what they did to that horse, but they will probably get a little jail time, and a fine, and walk away, continuing on with their lives. GRRR! The helpless need help being protected from predators like that!

I saw the episode, but I don't remember it word for word. It's been a while since I've seen it, sorry.

Yes, I'm quite aware that horses have emotions. I am not ignorant of the fact in any way and it means a lot to me.

I think ALL animals are special. They are creations of God with feelings and an importance in this world, and I love them all.

So, my opinion stands, that moo-cows are special too .
And I need red meat because my sister and I are anemic (sp.?).

But yes, I do agree that the word slaughter makes you wanna cringe >.<. I get what you're saying, rhen .

I agree with stormyheart that people should face heavier penalites for any kind of torture to an animal or person .
