the only tip i have is that you HAVE to make sure to make them all the same size!!! take some hairspray with you and efter every 5 bands or so hairspray the section you just did. also, when you're done, use sicors(sp) to cut his mane so its all even.

use a comb with a few teeth broken off .. (llll llllllllll) <- like that to measure the size of the pieces. That way they are all the same. When you put the elastic on make sure you are tugging the hairs DOWN that way they want to lay down, not stick UP. Stand on something tall enough or your arms and back will get really tired. If the hair is a little damp it helps the hair stay down too...that's all I can think of..

if you have a braid aid thingie, it goes a lot easier...make the band about 1/34 inch wide to get the best results....make sure the mane is damp, so the hair sticks together easier, and always pull in a downwars direction so the hair does not stick up...also, always start at the top of the mane, near the poll, and you do not have to band the little hairs at the wither, unless you are doing showmanship. gel it real good before you put the sleazy on and make sure all the bands are laying flat once it is on. in the AM when you take it off (not until you are ready to show) comb it lightly and spritz w/ hairspray to ensure a good hold for the rest of your day! trust me, one you do it a few times, it takes no time at all and you kind of get into a rhythem w/ it....have fun

i suggest lots of gel. i keep it gelled overnight, and then in the morning, comb it out a little. banding combs are VERY helpful. the only thing i have to say, is when i band my horse's mane, it likes to stand up off the neck. i make the band tight right up against the neck, and then i push it down a bit so that it keeps the mane flat. also, if you need to, tighten the hairs on the bottom of the mane. then it doesn't bounce around, it stays nice and pretty all day!
