Interesting- I've never heard of horses eating bananas, and it's not something I would think would be their first pick- not sure why, though!

So I have a question. Do you guys feed the bananas with the peels or not?

One of my old horses would only eat the peels and another would only eat the banana and spit out the peels. So yeah I'm just curious

BR, I told you already today that Cletus would only like Ba-naynays if he could peel them and throw the peels on the ground for Suri to slip on. He watches way too many cartoons when you're at work! LOL

I know a horse that would only get on a float for a banana. Nothing else would do it.

My guys will nibble but arn't too fussed on them.

Jack loves banana... and papaya, watermelon, iceblocks... he'll mug you for anything resembling food.

We have one that hates carrots and one that loves them. Have not tried bananas with them. Do you guys feed them these treats from hand?

I actually didn't know horses ate bananas until one of mine stole my banana peel and all!
They will eat the peel, but because of pesticides on them, I don't like them to eat them.
Besides, banana peels are supposed to be great rose fertilizer, so I put the peels on my rose bushes.
I do have a horse that does not like apples, but will eat watermelon and bananas. He also hates cinnamon. the other horse eats anything, even cat food - gross....

I do as long as they are respectful. Would not do it with young horses learning manners and when I worked as a carriage tour driver we had one mare who started nabbing customers - would pull them over to her with her head and neck and then steal their ice cream cones or soft drinks! We had to quit letting people hand feed her after that. She got kind of aggressive with it, though never bit anyone!
So, short answer. If they are accepting and not attacking, then yes, hand feed, if they start pushing you around or nipping, - no.

Well, my boy is silly...
The first time i offered him apple he would not take it for the life of him... He would literally bite his lips together...
The second time, I took a bite and he wanted some and then there where no more bites for me... Now he love it.

The same goes for bananas... He would have nothing to do with it the first time offered, now he's about to jump out of his skin to get to a banana if he sees one...

Don't know what it is... I guess he lets me test to see if it's safe to eat first.

Well, I can not eat it first because I can not stand bananas. EWWWWW. I look like a contestant on Fear Factor trying to eat maggot infested cheese whenever I try to eat a banana.
