Balancing *Video added*

My mare seems to have trouble balancing when I circle her at a trot. Anybody have any exercises or suggestions that I can do with her to help her learn to balance?

1. Sit still

2. Make the circle bigger to start with.

3. More info would help.

Is it full moon time again? Did the cereal truck overturn and fruitloops got spilt?

Very green
Circle size? Um, it depends on how much she veers off course. I try to make it pretty big. Not sure how big to tell you, though.
I'm trying it collected, but she isn't terribly consistent yet.

ETA: She is 12, though.

Bigger isn't necessarily better when it comes to circles. A smaller circle (depending on how big it was originally) can teach a horse to balance themselves, whereas a bigger one might just allow the horse to continue going around off balance.

The rider plays a bigger part - if you lean into your circles, your horse will have a harder time balancing.

What does the horse know about moving her shoulders around? How long has she been under saddle?

She pretty much doesn't know anything. She's been "under saddle" since she was...........Four? Five? I don't really remember. But she hasn't been trained. She was just ridden. And before that she was driven.

How is her walk? Is she balanced in the walk, able to walk straight, and on a bend, including circling?

Do you lunge her much? What do you do lunging?

So, you not only have good training to instill, you have "bad" training to undo

Can you get a short video of what she's doing (and what you are doing?)
