It just means she lost the pregnancy.

It's kind of a slang term, mares never absorb the fetus like other animals do. If they spontaneously abort, the conceptus/fetus is always expelled from the uterus.

AH Sorry . I should've had a foal this year but after two AI's, 1st was absorbed, second didn't take. I quit in July. No sense in trying for foal anymore. A bummer if anything.

Still a shame, any way you put it.

Mares always take time off when they need it. Hopefully she will bake you a super foal next year!

Thanks Ryu, she is a beautiful mare... she has a baby on the ground now... She would make an awesome dressage prospect, she is a 10 mover... I'm debating on riding her once the foal is weaned, you never know!

Oh, that's too bad It's always the ones you REALLY want to have easy times with that pull this stuff. Well, maybe she's trying to get you into the dressage arena and has to push you a little, LOL. She's just trying to help

oh, that is too bad, i understand the giving her a year off and that is too late for your program. but, can you explain why you say : it would be a late foal next year and even later the following year, ? why would it be later the following year?

double, I did have a dream last night that I was at a Dressage show... the ring was covered with white plastic (the footing)... I was on foot tracing my steps for the test... I use to do eventing a little, and was always worried I would forget my test midway through..

Also I was having trouble finding a place to park at the show, LOL! Couldnt get the horse off the trailer....then I was babbeling like an idiot to the judge, trying to make friends... very strange, or maybe not!

We breed TB's and try to have them foal as close to Jan 1st as possible... I prefer a late Feb baby or March... The all turn a year old on the 1st of January... we breed to sell, so having one thats almost a true year old is better than having one thats called a yearling and only 6 months....
