Thumbs down BAD MISTAKE!!!

Ok,Saturday I went to the farm where my friend works. There are about 26 horses.Anyway, one gelding is called Blue and he was sent to the trainer's.he was there for about 4-5 months and he has been back for about a month.he hasnt been worked with since the trainer,or nothing. My friend is supposed to be in charge of the horse's feed, grooming, health care and exercise/training.Well,ok,Saturday she saddled Blue and took him to the round pen to ride. I was around the other side of the barn, saddling up the mare I would ride,Ginger.
then my friend starts yelling for me,so I run around there and Blue had bucked her off.She wasnt hurt, but I saw that she had the back girth way too LOOSE and it was not connected to the front girth. It was way back farther than it should have been.
If she would have done it right,he wouldnt have bucked, because the back girth slid back and grabbed him.I dont even know for sure that he had ever been rode with a back girth!! eek!
me and my friend have VERY different opinions on horses. She is harsh and impatient and thinks that controlling them with sticks and whips is the only way to make them mind.
there is a yearling paso fino colt named comet that would rear, kick and strike out when she tried to lead him,she said if I carried a whip he would respect me. I didnt have a whip,I just went very slow with him, since he had only been handled a couple times before. he never ONCE reared or acted up with me and I was even able to touch his head I wish my friend would understand that if she had more patience with them, maybe they would be easier to handle.

Poor horse. If a back girth isn't fastened properly, it works like like a bucking stap. Which, guess what, makes horses buck. People shouldn't work with horses if they don't have patience. Could you talk to your friend about this?

Oh,she knows she doesnt have the patience for them, but she thinks all horses have to be "man-handled"so to speak.

Hah..put her on a hot, rearing TB and she'll learn not to be rough with them. You yank, they rear. That simple.

And yeah..you'll prolly say that's dangerous..but then she'll learn.

oh I agree with the Tb thing, she must learn to ask not demand, I mean we can all get frustraited but they are only animals. she can come to my barn and try to ride my Tb like you say she rides. she wont put up with it. she would throw her off or jump the fence with her, shes tried it with someone before. as far as im concered, why do you need a back girth. I asume you ride western because other then that i dont knwo what you are talking about.

I also, would hook a lead line up to her and then hit her for anything, just to make sure u have the respect. cause u know whips mean respect now adays i guess. god thats a sad story to hear. I thought a whip was an extension, an aid, if she can not use it correctly maybe it should be taken away from her.

ok sorry im done ranting now,

Liz

Yeah,I know, that she needs to learn to ask,not demand with them. And that probably would teach her a lesson. I'm mean, lol. She knows her limits though,I mean she's not going to ride a horse who is well known for meanness. there was another time my 12 year old cousin, kayti rode a big foxtrotter gelding called Prancer at the farm and Jenny told her she HAD to use spurs on him to get him to do anything. My cousin doesnt wear spurs so she didnt that day and Prancer only acted a little barn sour, but all he did was back up,take small steps and circles and toss his head a little.Saturday my friend rode him and he started acting up a lot worse for her, trying to rear and everything. She fought him a little then let him go back to the barn.
She's the kind to tell everyone else what they should do,then she does something contrary to what she said. But I never let her mess with my horses, and she can only ride Sugar.
My horses bug her because they dont act perfect all the time. She wants to micromanage them, control every part of them and that drives me CRAZY.

At least she's not too timid...timid riders are just as annoying as harsh ones wink

Yeah i do agree with you there, i dont like timid riders, but i dont like seeing people blame horses for things, or using a whip the wrong way.

one day she will learn patience ... hopefully.
