Bad idea?

My step Mom said some young women (girls?, teens?) came to our place yesterday and inquired about riding Buddy, our draft cross who hasent been out much. She said they have ridden for years and have experience. Anyway, one of them asked about Veruca. Currently, I ride her maybe 1 day a week, it's really all I have time for between everything Im doing right now. This girl wants to take her in the ring and out on some trails. They said they would get their Horse Council memberships (horse insurance).

Im leaning towards yes..and I would normally NOT even consider it but I really want her to get out and get some miles. Im obviously going to meet this girl, talk to her, and watch her ride, possibly give her a lesson on Veruca and take it from there...

What are your views?

As you said, I normally wouldn't want people... especially strangers riding my horse. But, at the same time, you want miles on your girl. If you think she seems really good with and to the horses when you observe her then I'd say, for your situation, go for it.

Do remember though that there is always the possibility that she will treat your horse differently when you're not around, so it might be a good idea to keep an eye on her for awhile.

Hey, you should ask her if she takes lessons and from who. You could talk to her instructor and get a feel for her instructor's methods with horses since hers will be somewhat the same, and also see if her instructor thinks she's good!

If a stranger walked into your house and said they would drive your car to keep it in good condition instead of it sitting around unused, would you let them? Is your horse more important? Your horse could be abused and mistreated or simply disappear.I would politely tell them thanks but no thanks.

They may have seen an ad then but did they ask the lease conditions cost etc or the cost to buy? I don't want to dampen your spirit but it is a well used scam for getting horses and selling them on. You then have no recourse against the purchaser who bought in good faith,

well, you are wanting to sell Veruca. It would be good for her to get some more miles and get inot shape for people coming out to see her and buy her and such. It sounds pretty cool.

I don't know about that Amy....
My gut says no, straight out.
What are you going to do if they come off and loose her? Or if she gets injured in her care? Or if they undo all the wonderful training she's had...
She's for sale, not so sure I would risk that.
