the whole point of the foam is to SUPPORT the foot NNOT cushion it although it does cushion in the process... you want FIRM support

Yes, the main purpose of the styrofoam pads is for frog support. You're supporting the internal structures of the hoof and reducing or eliminating coffin bone rotation and/or sinking. If you use 'foam', you will not get that. After a day, the foam will compress to a thin layer, you add another layer overtop of the layer that's already there, etc... Most likely, your mare will be noticeably more comfortable as soon as you put on the foam. At this point, it will be easier to make an educated decision about reducing or eliminating the bute. |
