I'm glad you're okay, but it does sound like you have a concussion. From my rugby playing days, I remember that the first head injury is usually fine on its own, but if you get a second impact before the first has healed properly - even if the second is very mild - that can kill you. (It causes rapid swelling and you pretty much don't make it to the hospital.)

I'm not trying to scare you, but pass on a little information. If your other injuries keep you out of the saddle for 3 weeks (how long rugby players are kept off the field after a concussion) then don't feel bad because it's probably for the best. :wink?

Thank you for reminding me of why I wear my helmet even when it is "uncool" or "too hot" I am so thankful that you are ok and I don't want to know what it would have been like had you not been wearing one. ((HUGS))

Oh boy! Karyn...I hope you're okay today! Really! Thank goodness Roger was home.

I had a bad car accident about 4 yeras ago...and although apparently I was chit chatting with everyone...I don't remember anything about it. I'm really mad because I don't remember the cute paramedics cutting off my clothes, nor do I remember the helicopter ride to the trauma center!

post traumatic "not remembering" is really scary. I am so glad you had your helmet on too, like the everyone else said, wow that could have been so much worse! The memory loss I can really relate too, I had a very very bad birth experience with my first (my son) and still to this day, don't remember exactly what happened for the last hour of my labor until about an hour after he was born. I only know what happened from what my midwife/mother tell me, sometimes I have flashbacks though and it's really scary. Glad to hear you're ok, I would get a CT scan or call your doc if you are experiencing any nausea or vertigo, that wouldn't be good!

LOL Jen, yes I need my head examined on SOOOO many levels YES I have a grade 1 concussion... Pupils are normal, I had to stay awake for 12 hours yesterday and TYLENOL ONLY so that the blood isn't thinned...

SO Yes I had my head examined... my stupid computer died last night, just shut down and wouldn't come back on (over heated) so couldn't post more last night sorry everyone...

TODAY I have a mild headache, and my left rotator cuff is sore, my left knee is still sore adn bruised but all in all I'll survive...

Apparently (I STILL don't remember ANY of this part) Dancer was fighting the bit a bit, and went to take off and I yanked her around to the right but she kept running through (well trying to) to the left and she tangled her legs up and went down... My neighbor's kid saw it... I remember her going to take off and the next thing I remember is sitting on my sofa in the house thinking I'd had a bad dream

In all of my years of doing things I've never managed to have a concussion... Yippee, something new for turning 40, LOL....

I'm not supposed to ride for a few days... since it's raining today I won't ride today, if my head ache is gone tomorrow then I'll be OK to ride again... We're going to buy a new helmet today... SO yes I'll have a NEW helmet (apprently they need to be replaced after a good bonk to them)...

Dancer is OK... She survived Roger untacking her... that should have been amusing... He did not know how to take the bridle off, so unhooked the bit from each side of the cheek piece first I guess I better teach him how to tack and untack the horses

SO, while I AM stiff and sore today, I DID get my noggin checked out (to the tune of $400, sigh... NO insurance SUCKS!) and I still get to get Emmerson, although at FIRST Roger was saying NO MORE GREEN HORSES I explained it could have happened on a Dead broke horse,.... stuff just happens sometimes

SO thank you everyone and this IS a good reminder why we need to force ourselves to wear a helmet!!! I will try to take some photos of it and post them later today.

Hey, do you think Roger will now feel the push to get your arena done in record time so you have a nice, soft pile of dirt to land on instead of rocky pasture? LOL. Use it girl, use it.
LOL Ugh I know Cindy.. I'll be 40 next Saturday... I'll still be sore I'm sure, LOL... instead of the 2 days of soreness when I was 20 There is NO justice in this world, LOL... 20 years ago I wouldn't have worn a helmet!!! C'est la vie!

I'm a tough old duck, it's that Irish/Italian stubborn pride thing < LOLOL... I'll be back to riding tomorrow... BUT NEW helemet is on the agenda today, (along with some new spurs, a new rope caveson and some other 'birthday pressents, lol).... AND I have to say even BEFORE I bit the rock today, Roger HAS been working HARD on getting my arena done! He's going to haul a little more dirt for leveling, and he had his laser level out on Friday I just have to call to find out when we can get the hog fuel delivered!!!

NOW he's saying that the fence will go in earlier then he'd said TOO, he SEE's that SOMETIMES it would be NICE To have a fence to run a horse into!!!! LOL...

Gee if I'd have known I only needed to crash and burn I might have staged this before, LOL..... JUST KIDDING... I still stick to my STAY ON AT ALL COSTS , LOL...

Oh I was so releived to see your s/n here just now. I was pretty worried since you had typed that thread and then disappeared!
So thanks to your pathetic internet service I worried sick for no reason. Well, no reason, but no good reason. lol gee that just doesn't sound any better.

I'm glad you got yourself checked out and YES you need a new helmet. Do NOT put that one back on again. Even if there is no external damage showing, you do not know how much the integrity of helmet has been compromised.

I had a little laugh with the visual of Roger "untacking" Dancer. At least he was able to figure out how to take it off - those crazy rocket scientists.

I managed to give myself a good wack on the head once, on the ski hill. The last thing I remembered was eating snow and then there I was, crawling up my folk's front steps - an hour drive away from the base of the mountain.
So I've been there, deffinitely take it easy for a couple of days.
