Angry Bad Baby!!! Grrr

OOOOOO!! Mars got in trouble tonight!!!

This is my feeding routine...

I pick up all the buckets from the paddocks
Give the minis their grain first
Give Mars his
Give Fiona hers

Mars is a little pushy. He's always by the feed room door when I'm in there. I've been working on that little problem.

I go to set his grain out and he's practically walking on me tonight. I push back at him but it's not working and he won't get away and I look back at him....He has his ears back at me!!!! BIG no-no especially with food.

I hit him with Fiona's bucket and he kinda goes away but he tucks his bum under as if thinking about kicking. So into the tackroom I go to get me a whip. I comes over and gets pushy again and I tap him in the chest to back up. He doesn't listen so I hit him harder with it and he went away.

I brought his food out and he came back and his ears went back so I swished the whip at him, he didn't get out of my space so I smacked him with it and he left but not before trying to kick so I landed a good one on his bum.

After a few minutes of this little dance of ours he didn't come near the food while I was there. I walked away once he had stopped outside of my space and let him have his dinner. Then I walked by him to go back to the feed room and he looked up and moved his bum away from me(good boy) and the second time I walked a little closer to him and he looked up and took a step back(good boy).

So he will be getting quite the boot camp if he doesn't change his attitude at feeding time.

Sounds like a baby that needs his butt kicked. I'm glad you actually smacked him, most people are too affraid to hit a baby, but they need it more then most horses.

He's just turned 4 months and HUGE! Just about 12hh already!

When I discipline a horse I 'explain' it to them verbally LOL I literally told him I was NOT going to have a horse pin his ears and walk all over me at any time and dinner was no exception. He was NOT going to be allowed to do so because he was gonna be bigger then me. I told him he needed to respect me.

I started nicely. I tried pushing him away. I tried smacking him with my hand but nothing was working so I brought out the guns with out hesitation LOL

Poor Fiona was acting like it was her in trouble. She started trotting around when I was swishing the whip at Mars. Silly girl. I love her though, never have had a problem with manners. Mars could learn a thing or two LOL

I was thinking about that the other day LOL Atleast I would know he'd be perfectly clean with you. He's such a fuzzy dust ball right now. I've been writing his name on his sides and bum lately LOL

Job well done! One of my biggest pet peeves is a pushy horse at feeding time. It sounds like you have things well under control.
