Baby's HYPP Results

Got the results today.

I'm pleased.
She's N/N.

So now we are looking at other causes.

Whew.

I was holding my breath when I opened this. I was hoping to see N/N! And I'm SO glad I did!

I hope you can find out what's going on with her.

There was an older horse being boarded and he started having seizures(that's what we'd call them). He'd start getting tight and shudder and kinda fall against the wall...They were scary to see...

That's great!

I have a question though--I've heard that you can send in a clipping of mane to get your horse tested for HYPP, but where do you send it to? Just a local vet, or is there a single place everyone can send to? Sorry if I sound stupid, lol!

To have a horse tested for the specific DNA mutation causing HYPP, please send 20-30 mane or tail hairs pulled with roots attached in a #10 business size envelope labeled with the horse's name, name of the owner or responsible agent, and a copy of the horse's pedigree. Please include a check for $50 per sample made payable to "UC Regents."

For more information, call 530 752-9780.

For more information contact:
Veterinary Genetics Laboratory - HYPP Testing
Old Davis Road
University of California
Davis, CA 95616-8744
Phone: (530) 752-9780
Contact us

Without the roots the sample is worthless

Yes, see my vet pulled blood and that's all I saw him do. I couldn't go in the stall in case she started shaking again, I can't get away because of my leg. I didn't see him pull hairs so this whole time I thought he sent in blood.
But nope. It was a hair sample. Durr Brandi.
He did pull blood for some tests though. What? I don't know.
I'm kind of outside the circle right now, but I'll be in contact with him.
