Question B-12 shots.....who takes them?

Hi everyone. A friend of mine suggested that I should be taking a B-12 shot at least once a month, because of my workload, and the fact that I get run down easily, and more suseptible to illness.

Does anyone here take them? What are they for and what do they do for you? And, do you have to take it in a shot? I hate needles!!!!

I get them Shelly, I have thalassemia, and B-12 shots have gone in and out of medical fashion as a treatment for it. I feel better with them than with out them.

I used to give my uncle his B-12 shots, right in the leg. I love giving people shots ^_^ LOL

I haven't taken any. I plan on doing the "master cleanse" and then going on a modified raw diet and I've heard that B12 is good for you so I might look into it.

Can I take it in a pill?

I don't think you can get B-12 human injectable without a Drs. RX. Mom used to get them twice a week towards the end of her life (she was aneoritic). Her friend (who was her Dr's nurse) would come out and give them but if I was back home whe she needed one, I gave it to her.

I take Super B-Complex caplets and they definately are helpful for me.

I used to get them when I was a jockey... I think they were B-12 and liver? I cant remember, LOl... got them right in the upper part of my bum... I tried it once in my arm and my arm got really stiff the next day! It definelty gives you an energy boost. (The vet gave them to me)...

True, you did need a prescription for them. His doctor gave the shots to him, and he got them once a week I think, or every two weeks - I don't remember.

But it was fun to give it to him.

I can't say it was 'fun' to give her shots to her - she was less than 80lbs by that time and it was not easy to find any muscle at all to get into. She always said that I hurt her the least because I didn't slowly push the needle in - I put it in quickly - like I give horse/dog shots. LOL - I just remembered - when I was in LPN education, when we were being 'taught' to give injections, I surprised the instructors with my 'technique'! We were given an orange to put the needle in to start with - I didn't push the needle in - I put it in like I would on a horse. Anywho - they said that they wished that all nurses could learn how to do the same.

I get B-12 and iron shots, I cant absorb anything from the food I eat or from pills, so I get the important stuff in needle form. I have no large intestine, and the large intestine is what absorbs the nutrients from the food you eat. with out the shots I am always dizzy and I have stomach problems, I also will have very low energy, and breathing problems. lol these shots are a life savor!!!

You will have to ask your doctor about it, he/she will most likely tell you to take it in pill form, its easier to get and its over the counter, its a supplement and in alot of foods so, your doctor may also recomend adding things to your diet, like green vegitables or different kinds of juices that have a high B-12 content.

Yeah Andi, an eighteen gauge needle has a way of doing that
