average cost for having a horse trailered?

so, what is the average cost for having a horse trailered?
I am trying to figure out how much it will cost me to have my horse trailered from the barn she is currently at, to where I live.
Also I am trying to figure out show cost, and how much it will cost to be trailered for that, as I figure for the amount of shows I do, it would be way cheaper for horse to travel by hired trailer, then to buy a truck and trailer.

Need way more information to answer that question... it varies greatly often shorter trips are more expensive. On average figure $2 to $3 per mile. What state do you live in? How far does the horse have to be hauled? Is there anyone else at your barn or near you that shows the same circuit that is going also and would have a extra space?

I would ask around at your barn/other horse friends and see if any of them would be willing to trailer your horse somewhere on an occasional basis, and work out a fair price together, since they would probably be short distance hauls.

i can't speak for others but just to cover my insurance, i charge $50 up front, and $1 per loaded mile. if the horse is difficult to load/ship or it's better than a 100 mile trip one way, things change a bit.

moving your horse to new digs might be a set fee, all on you, but for showing and event purposes, it is not uncommon to buddy up with someone else that is also going. that can make it much more affordable for all involved, and fun, too : ). with gas prices as high as they are, around here it is not unusual for many to wait until enough people are interestd in going somewhere just to defray some of the cost, so i doubt you will be at a loss for company. not too many folks can afford or justify solo transport right now.

in the future, if you find yourself active enough, you might find that owning your own rig is cost efficient since YOU will get to haul everybody everywhere : )
