My husband loves his Aussie saddle to the degree that he won't ride in a western saddle anymore. He feels secure in the deep seat and the ears also make him feel safer going downhill or when he is cantering. Aussie saddles are designed to give the rider a more natural riding position too so maybe that's another reason why so many people are turning to them.

Brad's aunt and uncle ride in them for Competitive Trail riding They have the no-horn kinds (LOL!). I am thinking of trying one out for endurance.

I don't have one and wouldn't normally use one but they are ok for sporting but it HURTS to jump in them, I would never bother buying one.

There is a simple explanation for that John. We aussies can ride well enough we don't need something to hold on to.

I do have a question though!! LOL! Do Aussie farmers/ranchers rope their cattle?? If they do, then they must ride in a western saddle, not a stock saddle??

Here in Canada we tie a few cows on behind once in a while. That is what we use the horn for.

I'm an aussie and the stocksaddle was designed for riding in rough mountainous country. The small rings are for tying on a blanket, ropes, water bottle ect. We do not use them to rope cattle, we campdraft our cattle. And have a competition in Australia similar to USA cutting. You can jump small logs and creeks but not too high. They are more for comfortable all day trail riding. To see what I mean try and get a copy of The man from Snowy River, an aussie movie. I garantee EVERYONE who watches it WILL love it. You may even want to come here or buy one of our stockhorses. You will understand why we have that saddle.
