thanks for doing this!! its so kind of you!

it seems that at the shows i go to, the judges never really take a liking to Giddy. i know that he's not a good hunter because of his arabian neck and tail, but from your point of view, what do you think?

(please disregard my position in that one, i was WAY left behind)

(not me riding him)

if you have some time, i was also wondering how my position looked on him? i mean, i havent had THAT much show experience, and i'm not sure if i have that hunter "look" haha

Thank you SO much for taking time out of your day to answer our questions!

No worries! Teehee, your username is too cute! Anyway! Onto business!

I think your position on Giddy is just fine. You already know about the one shot where you're a little behind, otherwise, looks good! Don't worry about the "Arabian neck / tail" stuff, be proud of your critter. I see your eyes up, your hands soft and your legs right where they belong. Good girl!

You know what I think would give you that extra little 'something' to improve your "hunter look" in rail classes and over-fences classes? A whole lotta leg. You're not a big rider, but try riding like you're BUFF!!! Put lots of seat and leg power into your riding, and Giddy will just suck up his tummy and propel himself forward. You want to drive him up into your soft hands, and help him round up... he'll feel like a turbocharged mini sport horse! That link I posted for Horseshoe Girl might give you some ideas as well!

Thats excatly what my trainer says! haha! My trainer is really an arabian trainer but hes doing a great job with money and the assistant trainer knows things abt paint horses and stuff so its pretty cool

Haha, go figure! That's one of the funny things that happens when we work with a lot of different breeds and disciplines. We start to pull certain techniques from different kinds of training, and apply them to whatever the current goal is... sometimes you have to be creative like that! Your trainer knows that the Paint "look" is a lower, hung headset, but he also sees the benefits of neck flexion since he works with Arabians. Cool!

No problem. Remember that it's strong legs you're going for, not crazy, kicking legs - so be calm like usual but strong with your leg and seat. Let me know how it goes!

I have been thinking about getting into showing big time this year. What can I do to be sure that the judge likes my horse? Also what is the best way to enter the ring for a class and why?

Ok...What is your opinion of half Arabians in hunter classes?

I need to work on my folding when jumping...I tend to fold too much for jumps...

I've done well at hunter shows, I've placed in all hunter classes but at one show...But I'd like to go to some rated shows, but I don't want to go if I'm automatically not be placed as soon as I enter the arena...

Bwahahaha, I dare you to show Sarah, Dad. (And HGS just witnessed it, you heard him girls, now he has to follow through, eh!? )

Okay, got the hint... I'll just do a thread on how best to enter the arena.
