Her shoulder might be just a touch steep in angle from wither to point of the shoulder, but that could be just the way she's standing so don't worry too much about that. Her neck is nicely set, tying smoothly fairly high into her chest. I like the general shape of her hindquarter ( can you imagine what a non-horse person would think, as I'm saying I like your horse's butt? )... and I'm referring to the structure, more than muscling... correct angles from point of hip to point of buttock, and point of buttock to stifle joint.

From the rearview, her tail is in the way a little but her hind legs appear to be straight, and the width across the back at the stifle level is greater than the width at the top of the hip (that's a good thing!). If we're going to be really picky, it looks like she might be standing just slightly toe-out, but again, she could just be standing lazily and not as square as possible.

A big plus is that her forearms and gaskins carry good muscling and width all the way down to her low-set knees and hocks... lots of power stored there. Low hocks and knees also mean short cannon bones, and that's desirable too, for pretty movement and for soundness.

Lastly, she's got a lot of eye appeal with that gorgeous flashy colour, bold blaze, and matching socks. All in all, I'd definitely say you could show her in halter!

Like other events, there are levels in halter classes from beginner right up to world championships. If you learn the class rules and watch the pros, you'll pick up lots of tips for training her, conditioning her, grooming her for show, and how to present yourselves in the ring. Check out the excellent posts by HalterGirl88 right here at HGS, that'd be a great place to start! Good luck.
Yay really so cool...yea i have no clue whare to start or find show in nervin alredy....dose the horse have to be reg. as she is not reg. yet..

Oh it's not a problem! I don't have all the answers, just wanted to help out if I could.

I judge all kinds of classes. Western Pleasure, English (Hunter) Pleasure/Hunter Under Saddle, Western and English Equitation, Horsemanship, Stock Seat, Hunt Seat, Showmanship, Halter, Lungeline Futurities, Trail, In-Hand Trail, Reining, Western Riding, Command, Road Hack, Show Hack, Hunter Hack, over-fences classes, bareback classes, various breeds as well as 4H and Open shows, and I score 4H conformation judging cards for judging competitions. I've competed in all of those events myself, and have also dabbled in Saddleseat, Cutting, Team Penning, Dressage, etc. so my background is varied.

For breed shows (APHA) she has to be registered, but not for open shows. And an open show is the best place to start anyway - the atmosphere is more relaxed and better suited for learning the ropes!

Possibly, let's check her out when she's all fit and conditioned and muscled up! Halter classes are divided by the horse's age and gender. Weanling, yearling, 2 year olds, 3-4 year olds, and then mature horses, for fillies/mares, geldings, and colts/stallions. Then there are also usually divisions for novice handlers, amateur/non-pro handlers, and open (for pro handlers).

If you start a thread in the Training forum, asking how to train your mare for halter, you'll get all kinds of advice and I'll add some ideas over there too.

For dressage shows, do the judges like to see hoof polish on, or do they prefer the more natural look???

Wow This is a GREAT thread!

I'll Post some pics Of Money's Confo in a bit.

He's been in training for western pleasure and i did some open shows with him last year and two in the year before. Im just nervous about showing in the paint and pinto shows. I dk why excatly. But How should I prepare myself for it. And what is your opinion on all the bling and fake tails? For Backing up what do you like when riders ask for it? Also when you ask for a reverse at walk do you want them to pivot or to reverse while still walking? Do you ever ask for lead changes or side passes in WP?

Soorry so many questions. ANd I do understand some other judges have different opinions and what they like.

I have also done some open show hakter classes with money we have done well but i dont think i would compete halter with him in paint world..they like the horses with the steriods haha.

ANd these pics were prolly takin abt 2 months ago so not soooo recent

Sry he was kinda on hill in one of the pics and he was kinda sweety after a workout

Theses are older
