Post argh! bottle brush tail!!

my mare has the worst tail ever. Up the top where the dock is it sticks up and looks frizzy. It looks like a bottle brush and when i try to braid it, it just frizez out. Is there anything i can use to tame that tail or should i trim it and keep it really short?

elle,

Sorry about the Rugby

Tail, has she rubbed it off like Pic did with Pin worm? if not and has been wormed against these pesky grubs, then being a show pony, but Mountain and Moorland didn't have to plait but didn't want it to stick out like a bog brush, so I used Brylcream to stick it down, and it works. I wouldn't cut it off it will just grow out worse, sticking out, so be patient, get some Brylcream or hair gel, dead cheap, and stick it down until it has reached past the bog brush point(in my words) Hope helped.

My mare has a tail like that too...the very top is rather "unmanageable" shall we say? What works for me is to simply cover the entire top of the tail with leave-in conditioner, and try to avoid brushing it. If the frizziness is only due to broken hairs, conditioning should strengthen the hair.

I like them to be well groomed, not only good for them but makes you feel better. Was only saying today to my friend I share the field with that Pic and his old companion Tony who is her horse and he is also grey, look like no one owns them at the minute, so muddy, and they are like hippos for the mud

Candygirl-

I've never heard of Frizz Ease, but does it really work that well? as much as constant conditioning helps I'm always looking for something a little more effective and not quite as costly (i go through an amazing amount of cowboy magic every month)

Hi, my tb mare had this problem a few months ago, until I spoke with my trainer about it, she told me to put a whole bunch of conditioner on it, and wrap the top of the tail, eventually if you change the conditioner every week(don't forget to wash and let dry, then put conditioner on, then put polo wrap, or whatever you use)by the time winter is over the tail will have grown out straight and lay flat, also my mare have a blanket with a tail flap, which keeps it flat to her butt, but does NOT resolve the problem!

Hope this helps
good luck
Nikki
