| Full Member | Are we going to have an oops??? Yesterday when we were out with the horses we discovered something new. We were able to see the mare's teats. We have never been able before. She also looks a lot rounder but don't know if maybe she is just getting fat. See the reason we are wondering is because last summer mom got a 2 year old stud (if my terms are wrong please correct me) and before she put him in with her mare she got him cut. The thing is we couldn't wait very long before we put them in together. The mare also got out and went "riding" with a neighbor and we aren't sure if they have a stud. My question is how do we tell without a vet?

| Senior Member+ | Vet would be the best answer.. Sounds sort of irresponsible to put a stud in right away.. ... sorry but.. You should have been able to tell if she was pregnant awhile ago. Not just.. One day... correct me if im wrong.

| Senior Member+ | That 2 year old who was gelded would have been fertile for up to 30-45 days after being gelded due to storage of some semen in a different location from the test.icles. So yes the mare could be in foal. Get a vet check.

| Senior Member+ | I was just wondering how you could never see the mare's teats before? Did you just never look?

| Full Member | We had to bring the gelding home due to the fact that where we had him had racing horses and they needed the feild that he was in to run the horses and they didn't want him to get into the running thing. The mare had to be here because the people that were boarding her, were abusing her. She was a bag of bones and had run her into a feed bunk while using her at a feed lot. So really we didn't have a choice. If she is in foal with the appy then that is great cause she is 1/4 appy anyway. My mom wanted to breed them before he got gelded but it was too late in the season (almost summer) and we couldn't leave him as a stud. Its not like we want to abort her or get rid of the foal I was just wondering. As for seeing her teats before... we had looked under her lots to see how the cuts were healing and never really saw anything. Now you look under and can definatly see them.

| Senior Member+ | The problem you are risking at this point is if there are twins you will not know. I would highly suggest getting the vet out to check her and see. Pregnant mares need different care...better to know for sure.
