Arabian Western Pleasure

Does anyone know some "secrets" of the Arabian wp trainers on how to get that amazing headset? I'm wanting to get my horse to raise the root of his neck more and be able to do that "hooky" headset. I can't find any info on this on the internet, and I hear that info on training the saddle/pleasure type horses is a little hard to come by.
I have tried some contraptions including an elevator bit and "power" curb chain but I have just not been able to achieve that rock solid steady hook to the neck. I am not a huge fan of using contraptions but just need some advice on how they do it, so I can take that & process it to how I might go about doing it.
Thanks!

What type of horse do you have? Do you have a horse with a higher carriage like an Arab?

Once a horse is working properly behind, you can work on finessing the headset. However, if he's using his rear properly, the way he's holding his neck should give you a general idea on how he's going to carry it--some Arabs carry high, some lower...

His body movement has been perfected, he is a National Show Horse. We were World Champions in WP last year, and he is SUPER broke, but I feel like it might be that he doesn't put enough effort into self carriage. How to encourage that? He's a bit mellow for his breed type, and although I love that, I'm afraid it hinders our competitive edge for him to be so non-chalant. I'm new to this, so how would I post a pic of him so you could see how he's put together?

To post a pic, click on the horse gallery, and select "upload a pic". that will give you options.

When you're posting in the thread, click on "post reply", and down under the smileys there's something you can click to link you to the gallery.

Click on the picture you want, and it should show up in the post.

Hope that works! If not, its in the gallery, his name is LA Cochise.
You would think that because my husband is a web developer that I would not be such a computer-tard.
