Honestly there isn't really that much of a difference, except maybe in the show halters. They do use a different type of halter but now I see several other breeds using the same type so other than Arab tack being a bit smaller or wider as the case may be there really is no difference. Arab tack is usually cob or small horse size when it comes to head gear and girth length (not always but usually) The saddles are made for the broad(wider)-shorter backed Arabs too. But honestly Arabs come in all sizes now so not all Arab saddles fit some of today's Arabians. I have bought cob size bridles and they have worked just find for the smallest of Arab heads. I have bought horse size bridles and they have fit what some might call the larger heads. As with any horse you simply have to make sure things have the proper fit. Just because it says it is an "Arabian" whatever does not mean it will fit all Arabs. It's the same for saddles. You don't have to buy an Arabian saddle simply because you have an Arab. You get and use what fits! It used to be that Arab saddles were all dark oil with round skirts. Arabs no longer show in the round skirted western saddles that you still see in some of the catalogs and you see the light oiled color as well. I think that the Arabian breed has this image of being an expensive breed and only those with lots of money own and show them. Because of this reputation I think a lot of the tack labled "Arabian" is priced higher than other generic breed tack. That doesn't always mean it is better quality just more expensive. It has been my personal experience that is it is labled specifically for "Arabians" it costs more! wink It's really like buying any tack, you buy what fits and the best quality you can afford.

No you don't need an arabian saddle, I owned an arab and all the saddle fitters told me she must be an x wide or arab fit, bearing in mind they never saw her, but they were addament that she wouldn't fit anything less than an x wide, We bought a wintec saddle as she was still growing, also the x wide gullet (the saddle comes with a medium gullet free) we swopped the gullet and went to tack her up and it obviously didn't fit, we swopped back to the medium and it fit prefectly. I'm just saying don't listen to arabian saddle fitters unless all your knowledgable friends think you should get one. (but it's up to you not trying to start a fight or anyhing) Nadia |

Best thing on any horse, Arabian or QH, take your horse to the tack shop. Most tack shops will measure your horse for free. Just ask before you bring them up.
