I agree that this guy should be gelded.
He would make a super gelding that with the right training would probably end up being very competitive in the show ring.
He would probably go a bit crazy for a while afterwards...being able to get out and be with other horses after being kept up like he has would probably make him go what I call "freedom drunk". He would not want to be caught for fear of being locked back up! Who could blame the guy for thinking like that either?
With the right person this horse, once gelded could probably turn into a nice show horse but as he is right now as a stallion , he would easily be beaten at the AHA Class A shows by better quality horses in any of the stallion classes.
While I know that you feel sorry for this horse (and who wouldn't!) the best thing you can do for him is to educate the owner. Do so in a sneaky way...don't let her know what you are doing. Leave Arabian Magazines where she will just happen to find them and can look at then when no one is around. Let her hear you talking about forums and E-groups you have found online for Stallion Owners. Where they exchange tips and all sorts of great information about things they do with their stallions. Mention that the Arabian Horse Association has a great Mentoring Program and you can search for a mentor that is nearby online at their website. I found several listed in Canada and 2 in BC: TERRY JOHNSON - KAMLOOPS, BC Canada... &...Joan McNaughton - Quesnel, BC Canada)
Also if you go to watch any Arabian Shows invite her to go with you.
Little things like these might help educate this horse's owner and encourage her to make the changes that will not only improve this horse's life, but help her to lose her fear and enjoy him even more.
