It is funnny but I heard that he gets a lot of his hotness from the Padron line. Supposedly it should even itself out in his 7-8 year old year. Here's hoping

OOH- I'm new. I didn't know you had a Magnum Psyche son. Thanks for sharing the pics, he does look a lot like his sire...

Ahhhhhhhhh Padron. What a simply incredible stallion. Very strong DNA in that horse, leaves his mark on all of his get.
Hypothetical to breed or not to breed......... that was an indistbutable yes breed and we are so glad they did. May he RIP he has left a long list of successful babies for us to enjoy.

*Padron was a outstanding sire and has many great sons and daughters that, sadly, did not receive as much recognition as those that had a lot of money behind them.

While not one of my favorite *Padron sons (Oops, he is actually a GRANDson), Magnum Psyche is a nice horse and, IMO, it is truly a shame that he had that "incident" to tarnish what would have been an outstanding reputation as a show and breeding stallion.
I just think that it is wrong to tamper with, and even surgically alter, a young stallion's phenotype. especially one that is being shown and will be selected by mare owner's based on how he looks. I do believe that MP would have been a great stallion, and show horse, even if he had not had "his operation."
Also, I do agree with his being over bred and, I bet a lot of his get owners wish that his yearly book had been limited even more to keep the value of their MP sons and daughter's offspring up in the higher price range.

Yes,Texasgal your correct..Magnum Psyche is a *Padron grandson...

Mtroika.... the surgery MP has was one that removed some of the muscles in his throatlatch area...and was done because the young stallion was said to be a cribber (windsucker). If you look at some of the photos of the stallion today you can still see the scar.
Here is a previous post of mine from another thread here about this:
Quote:
As a yearling Magnum had cribbing surgery which does remove muscle from the throatlatch area. He does have an 8 inch scar there.
It was said that this surgery was necessary since he was a cribber. The reason this was questioned is that several other yearlings also had the exact same surgery as Magnum did at the exact same time....plus several other horses had various other procedures done as well.
This surgery on Magnum was found by a Court not to be cosmetic surgery, but necessary to correct a problem.
David Boggs, however, was suspended from the AHA show ring for 5 years for unethical conduct: He was found guilty of having show horses surgically altered, including liposuction, eye tattooing, and throatlatch surgeries. Then promoting those animals for show and breeding. There were a number of animals that were involved.
He was given 5-years suspension and 5-years probation from any IAHA sanctioned event.
His suspension from showing is now completed and he is once again back in the show ring.
He took Magnum Psyche back to the AHA National Championship show the same year his was once again allowed back into the show ring and he once again won National Champion Stallion.

Magnum Psyche is not one of my faves from Padron lines either- but I don't know if I had seen him BEFORE if I might have liked him better. Not sure. In general I like performance horses....

I know Magnum looks so, so extreme in all the promo pictures Midwest has of him. It is kind of off-putting. I wonder if he looks more 'normal' when you see him in person. I have yet to find a non-pro pic of him floating around of him. I wonder what he looks like in person.

Midwest had him at their open barn at Scottsdale last year. I would love to get a chance to see him some day.
