There's a website, I believe it is almostrancharabians.com. If you can't find that, look up Almost Ranch Arabians on google and I'm sure it'll turn up

The AHA has a booklet with information and tips you can buy for $10:

Arabian Costumes
If you have been intrigued with the beautiful native costume classes at Arabian horse shows, you will gain vast knowledge from this newly revised, full-color book explaining how to create your own unique and authentic Arabian costume. This classic edition recounts the history behind the elegant attire, and gives detailed explanations, illustrations and photographs of variations of the costume. The book provides insights and explicit directions for creating the abu, headdress, shirt, trousers, accessories, bridle, breast collar, saddle, tassels and pompons.

Shoe-String Budget Arabian Costume
Go to the Goodwill type stores and look in the formal section. find a bright colored gold or silver full length in a base color in brocade with a scoop front.

Find gold or silver slippers at the same store.

Buy a nice long sleeved matching blouse that is high turtle type necked.

Turn the evening gown around so the front is the back and add gold or silver trim around the edges. then the zipper goes up the front. (If that isn't right keep the gown front to back like it is)
Split the sides to the waist and add trim.
Have a flowing cape of a lame to cover the back.
Make a pair of matching gold or silver lame pants and make elastic for the ankles.

Next get a plastic ice creme carton.
Make it about 3 inches (ala I dream of Jennie) and put an elastic chin strap on each side.
Cover it with a piece of matching material, trim and add a flowing chiffon veil and make a piece across the face that drapes nice.

the trim is always matching trim- gold or silver and always on sale at a factory outlet, or Jo Anne's, or somewhere.

The horse.
Always use carpet thread or thicker and really sew them down.
A web bridle -color to match, drapery trim and tassels and a brocade type bedspread that matches the color scheme from -again- a consignment or goodwill type store.

lay an old sheet on the horse.
Draw with magic marker the outlines of the design you have chosen or drawn. Pin the darts with safety pins.
Cut your blanket pattern- make sure it fits.
Lay it on the bedspread and cut it, bind the edges, trim it and add the tassles.
Add, by heavy thread, the trim to the web bridle and web breastcollar.
Use your imagination!
Oh, and here is one of the most well-known riders costume that was ever used in the Arabian Horse show ring...a copy of the costume Elizabeth Taylor wore in the movie Cleopratra:

And let us not forget *Sakr and Tom McNair...the epitome of the Arabian Costume Horse & Rider.... in their authentic traditional costume:

Those costumes are Beautiful.

I loved the Native costume class. I only got to show in it once, in a borrowed costume. Looking at my pictures now it was a really ugly costume, but I felt like a million bucks in it at the time. This was the Daffodil show, so it was in early spring, and I'm wearing a bra that had been covered in gold fabric. I looked like a belly dancer. It wasn't so bad with the heavy cape covering, but at the gallop when that cape flew back it was dang cold!

Risking to post a picture in case it offers ideas for anything. This was probably taken around 1980. I do think the cape is cool, but I didn't choose the colors and I have NO idea why I have what looks to be a wedding cake on my head.
