Arabian Horse Cost

I was wondering if anyone out there had a good feeling for how much a trained Arabian would cost. To make a long story short I am not sure if Liberty is going to work out so I am contemplating trying to save up and purchase a better trained horse maybe this time next year. I am not sure how much I need to be saving however. I don't need a Nationals-quality horse, just a horse that I could ride (I am definately a beginner-skill level) and have fun with at some smaller shows. What are everyone's thoughts on cost for this type of horse?

The best thing for you to do, is figure out how much you want to pay and then search for Arabs that fit that.

You can find nice arabs for around 2000. Or at least over here. I sold my perfectly trained, and show experiened purebred Arab for 2000. Really just depends on what age and stuff. And just start looking at the ads, then if you see ones around what you would like then start saving for around their amount.

Well, I have a very nice, okay trained arab for sale for $2000. I have a very well trained, can do it all and has done it all arab for $6500, but I think that his owners would come down in price.

The more training and experience the horse has, the more they will be, generally.

Depending on where you live in the USA.....and who you know .... you can find a Arabian that is just fine for local open shows and even the smaller Class A's priced from free/giveaway.... on up to several thousands.
I would suggest that you look-up, and visit an AHA Arabian Horse Mentor in your area. They will be able to help you find the horse of your dreams at a price you can afford!
Here is the link to the Mentor Locator:

There are 30 AHA Arabian Horse Mentors in Minnesota so there is a good chance that there is one near you!

Sandra A-1, That is so funny that you mention that. My current instructor is an Arabian horse mentor. His cheapest horse that is only Green-broke is $6500 (there is one weanling for $4500 and he is the least expensive horse he has) all of his trained/broke horses run from the $8000-$14,000 which is more then I can afford. Hence my dillema, I really want an Arabian but being a beginner I need a horse that is more then Green-broke trained. I guess I could get one and send it out for training but that is $600-$700/month and I don't really have that. I am beginning to wonder if Arabians are out of my price range

Well, I figure realistically I can't go over $6,500 (that is about 1/5 my salary, everyone can do the math) and I just can't justify spending more then that on a horse. Maybe when I have a job where I can make more I can afford more horse but that is still some years off. Can I get a trained, beginner friendly Arabian that is still some-what show competitive for that?
Maybe I should wait several more years until I can save up $10k but I figure that will take me 3 or so years and I really don't want to wait that long until I have my own horse.

Have you talked to your instructor and told them your budget?
Most are willing help you find horses in your price range. If not find another one.
I really like having several instructors and trainers that I can let know when I am looking for a horse because if they don't have what I am looking for they more often than not know where I can go to find what I want.

You CAN find and afford the horse your looking for...just be willing to take all the time needed to find it. Keep networking and putting the word out.
Contact trainers and breeders...attend the Arabian shows....you never know what you will find for sale there!
Also check the AHA Classifieds.

Don't be afraid to talk to the breeders in your area (especially at the shows).....even if their current sales list has horses out of your price range. Go ahead and make contact with them (network) and be honest about what you are looking for. You never know...they might know of a horse for sale or might even be willing to "adjust" their price on one of their horses.....
Meeting and making friends with the "Arabian people" in your area and at the shows is the best way to not only find a horse, but come across those bargains where you get a lot more horse than you though you could afford!
Just don't get impatient, give up and settle....please do hold out for a really good one!
I promise you will be glad that you did!
Good Luck with your search!

My gelding cost me $1200 but I have seen them for much cheaper around here. He wasn't a beginner horse though and not registered and 18. If you aren't interested in doing breed shows you could always get an unregistered arab. Of course you wont be able to prove its pure arab but thats up to you. Sounds like what your trainer has are high dollar "going to be a champion" arabs. They are not all like that of course. How far are you willing to go to get a horse, like how far will you travel?
