Arabian Horse Clipping

so my arabian has a thick tail. and towards her rump the tail is thick. my dad told me i had to clip it so her tail would look better when she puts it up in shows. but i was wondering if anyone knows how to clip arabians. her mane also.

With the Mane, unlike most horses were you go to there ear length, you go father back. About another ear length(maybe less). This is about the length of how far, yes it's a model but a very good one at that!

The AHA rules say the horse must be shown with a long natural mane and tail...do not clip the hair on the tail.
It will look just fine when showing.

There is no set length...as in inches when it comes to an Arabian's bridlepath.
You cut the mane of an Arabian Horse to accentuate it's throatlatch and enhance the area where the head joins the neck, when the horse is presented in halter or set up in a bridle.
If your horse has a nice throatlatch, you cut the bridle path shorter to draw the eye to it.
If the horse's throalatch is rather thick and not exactly that shapely, then you trim the bridlepath a bit futher back to create the illusion that it is thinner than it really is, and use the long mane to draw the eye away from that area.
Most of the longer bridle paths, like the ones halfway down the neck, are beginning to disappear. You do ocassionally see them, but not as often as you used to. I am seeing more and more often, the longer length mane being used with shorter bridle paths. You even see horses in the show ring now that have upper sections of their manes growing back in where the bridle path was cut far back and they no longer like that look.
Most Arabian owners now prefer a bridle path that is not as long as they used to be. They want just enough to enhance their horse and the length can be shorter than their horse's ear or just a bit longer...it all depends on what the owner prefers and what will enhance their horse.

Yeah, that would take up like, half the neck! I clipped my guys bridle path about an ear and a halfs length. I don't show him but I do like to make him look like what he is..an Arabian!

I have had Arabians on and off since 1978 and never once have had an 18inch bridle path (That is how long 1.5 feet is lol) I have 3 VERY Arabian looking Arabians right now and the longest bridle path is Dancer's, and it's only about 6 inches long. Neither Emmerson nor Elle has a bridle path at all right now and they both still look very much like Arabs

Picturing an arab with a 1 1/2 foot bridle path. What was left of the mane would be abut the length of a decent bridle path Make sure you also gear the length of the brile path toward your dicipline a bit as well Some horses CAN pull it off, but I don't are to see hunt horses with long bridle paths... IMO, it usually just doesn't work (unless the horse can carry "the look"... but the hutners are usually braided, so it doesn't work to have it too long). It's not the bridle path that makes your horse an Arab

Oh, and as far as clipping the tail... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT You don't want to hit the ring and be disqualified because you clipped your horse's tail.
