We just sent in our foals papers a week or two ago. When he was a newborn he got bit on his left flank and it grew in much lighter than his foal coat. We got a letter from AQHA the other day asking for us to shave Well what would happen if it actually was pink underneath?\ Oh and this is the area we're talking about:

I guess they want to know to make sure it's not a mark that you need describe like blazes and socks.

Looks like a bite mark to me. They are checking for underlying pink skin. This is where it gets a little complicated. I can't keep up with AQHA/APHA and their rule changes on excessive and misplaced white, but they have found some quarter horses carry the Lp gene for Appaloosa. This could possibly be what they are thinking. Don't be surprised if they put you through the ringer and ask for a genetic test. Been there, done that one. Good luck to you.

Theres a differance between DNA typing and Parentage Verifacation which they will want if theres pink skin under the spot.

Then all you need to do is shave it, take a picture to send to show its not pink. I've done it many times over the years and had to do it for the APHA to show it is pink. Really tricky when its a belly spot

Clipping and photographing a belly spot? Yikes! You should get hazard pay for that.

lol seriously huh? I think he'll be fine doing it though nothing else has phased him yet so I don't think the clippers are going to be an issue
