Question Appropriate to change names/change disciplines??

Hey guys,

I have a 7 year old AQHA mare named Gunen For Glory. That's her AQHA registered name. I've shown her locally at western shows (not nessicarily AQHA-approved shows) and I've used that name... but I was wondering if it would be appropriate to change her name if I go english? (Which I'm planning on doing... she has this nice long + low thing about her, and I'd hate to try to shorten her more for the western.) A girl that shows with me locally recently took her mare to an english show and changed her name, so it was less 'westerny' .. what do you guys think?

If I do change her show name for the english shows, I'll most likely be back on here asking you guys what you think... xD

Why change her registered name if she has already been shown? If she has been to a breed show or has offspring you cannot change her name. PLUS why make her less of a horse than she already is... The name of the horse has zero bering on the placings at a show BUT people who know the name will then think even more of the horse for being able to compete in both english and western classes.

Your friend that changed her horses name... was it registered? So she paid the association fees for a name change?

You already have shown your horse with this association and your horse has done very well. For that reason alone I think it would be terrible to change your horses name.

I have actually changed my horse's show name various amounts of time. I have not changed his registered name though, cuz why go through that trouble? (He's a registered paint) but I think he's been through 3 name switches already in the show ring. Seriously, because I show english and his registered name is "Country Phantom" which doesn't seem very english to me. So go for it!

If she's never been shown english, and you're showing USEF, you can make any name you want to register her with USEF, but you have to keep the name or else she wont get her points.

I agree with Mary. I don't understand all the name changes.
