i would say it all depends... on his training (pro or ammy), his rideability , his temperment, his athleticism, and how he feels to sit on. etc

and also, it depends on what discipline you are marketing too. dressgae folks want specific traits.... as i suppose hunters etc.

the best idea if you are looking to sell - is figure out what his niche is and market him in that direction.

the one caveat - for dressage if he is being trained by an ammy with no real dressage (FEI) level training experience you will have a hard time selling him for much over 10k... he just wont ave the correct foundation and will need to be restarted.

Ouch -- I honestly think that's totally un-called for and acutally rude!

Sorry, but you don't have to have FEI level training experience to start a horse correctly! Sheesh, I don't have that, and I train & sell Dressage horses, and yes I do ask over 10K for some. I can assure you they ARE started correctly & don't need "restarting"

wasnt trying to be rude! i dont know you or how you train, so dont take it personally.

what i posted is my opinion. and i agree that you dont need fei experience to "start" a horse correctly. i did say "Trained" - to me starting is the first 30 days. training comes after.

^^ If you don't know anyone and their horses, then I wouldn't be saying that anyone training with out FEI training experience means the horse will need to be restarted!

As per your definition, I then start & train dressage horses. The last one I sold was a solid 1st level horse, started 2nd level when he left me. My current one is a near solid 2nd level and has started some 3rd level movements as well. Other horses have all been at least a solid 1st level horse, if not 2nd. I jsut haven't kept them long enough to get past the 2nd and onto 3rd. I did however get the lovely joy of caring for a friends horse who was schooling PSG and he was a total hoot to ride, so I have experience riding the higher level movements, but not alot.

Holy moly! That boy is gorgeous and you've definitely got a jewel on your hands. Just like joking said, enter him in a few more shows. Up his experience a little bit and you've eaaasily got a 12k. I'm still in awe.

I haven't seen any pictures of you showing at FEI level atabal so I guess if you sell any of your horses (do you have any?) then they will have to sell for cheap as they will all need restarting.
I am sorry but that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Especially if she is working with an experienced instructor (or has trained a few horses to a higher level herself).

Well I appreciate the fact that ths is your opinion, I don't think that you have any knowledge of this horse & rider/trainer combination, so how can you even remark on needing to be retrained.

And I don't believe she made any comment regarding FEI or her desire to turn him into an FEI ride.

With all due respect, that's just my opinion though.
