Very interesting thread, I have a book that I got at the natural food store, called Apple Cider Vinegar, Garlic, and Honey, nature's cure alls, it has lots of uses for all of them....now I will have to try some ACV for my horse this year, for flys and what else it can do for her! Cathy

Honey also works wonders for horses with seasonal allergies and colds.

I dose my 2 year old with 20cc of honey, right in his feed. It's kind of hard to draw it up so I cut off the tip of my syringe. Good stuff. I use a locally harvested honey for allergies, it helps to build immunities, kind of like allergy shots in humans. It also coats the throat with any coughing.

Excellant inf. Thank you! I prefer "natural" cures/help to anything on the market - seem to have less side effects.

from my experance, go with RD1, when it comes to horse feeds, vet products, and things like this, they seem to hav the best range of choice and value for money with horsey products, comparied to the other farm supplies stores here, heck you can even buy zilco products there! (eg their halters and leads, grooming supplies etc etc)
and if your nice you get a pretty little discount card (gotta love a discount!!)

I've been using ACV in the feed for years as an insect repellent, just not as a wash for wounds. Heck, when I lived in Wisconsin, where the mosquito is the state bird , I drank 2 TBL of it in a glass of water with honey to sweeten it (tastes just like lemonade) every morning and it sure worked!

I have been told that it even works (either apple cider OR white) diluted with water 1/1 or 2/1 as a fly spray for the horses.

I really prefer natural, and have found out the hard way, that anything with citronella in it makes any africanized bees attack!!!! I had the farrier coming out and thought I would just give a good spray to the horse before hand! We were swarmed! Fortunately I was able to run with the horse to shelter and close the door! Who would have thought that! I found it out from the bee keeper that came out to remove a hive that had formed in an old tire that had been put around a plant to hold rainfall!

I get all my horse feed there, but i only run in grab it and jit, i never get time to actually have a good look around! I seen those gumnuts you were talking about the other day as well, im guna grab some for Cramello for over winter, so il see how those go!

How much ACV do you put in with your horses fed? is 1/4 a cup enough? or should i got for a whole cup?
