Appaloosa bloodlines

I am planning to buy a young Appaloosa sometime in the near future in hopes of showing ApHC at breed and world level ( down the road). I would like to have your guy's insight on bloodlines, and modern sires that you seem to favor ( and don't) in the Appy western pleasure industry. Thanks in advance!

Check the leading sires list on the ApHC website. That's always a good place to start.
http://www.appaloosa.com/asna2007/ShLSPerf.aspx

Also, looking at the top ten class results from Nationals and Worlds and see who the sires are of the winning horses.

I would take nearly any Appy with Dandy Zippo breeding.
DZ Weedo is also my favorite of Dandy's sons. I also like Ditto Weedo, but he's not on that list that mutrok posted.
I have met Dandy and Ditto personally so maybe that is why I am partial to them. They are such well mannered, friendly studs. A farm I ride at stands Dandy and Ditto during the warmer months of the year, and many of their babies are also at that farm. I have ridden and worked with TONS of Dandy's babies. Both young and older. GREAT minded horses. I would take on in a heartbeat. And they naturally have slow movement, nice headsets, great conformation and trainability.

Thanks! That's what I did after the national show...Impulsive Zipper is hot right now in WP. I actually inquired about one of his 2007 colts, but he was priced too high for what we wanted to spend on a weanling. Granted, he had proven full siblings, nice conformation ( and color to boot!). If I don't have a horse by next summer, I think I will take a look at his 2008 crop.

I love DZ Weedo, and know many successful horses out of him. It was unfortunate that he moved out of my area because you don't see alot of them around here anymore, just older seasoned horses. I will definitely keep an eye out for his horses though.

And, what do you guy's think of "The Miracle Chip"? I haven't seen any of his offspring in person, but his get do pretty well in the ring. I heard he recently moved up to Oregon and will be standing there.

I don't know what part of Wa state your in but you should be able to find some Sir Wrangler foals around with some other quality bloodlines included. Sir Wrangler passed a year ago or so but produced many winning foals. He is in the Appaloosa hall of fame. Just google and you'll find his web page.

The Miracle Chip has produced some awesome babies. He is standing in Redmond, OR for next year. There was actually an articel about him in the ApHC journal this month. He is the 2nd leading sire of western pleasure horses (well as of Oct 2007). I think the move to the West Coast for him was awesome. We are hurting for good performance horses out here. Halter....we have some of the toughest horses but performance...not so much. Sometimes he babies can be a bit of a handful but they are great in the show ring. And his fee for next year is very reasonable if you book before Feb 1 then it goes up to $950.

I know of a really nice Just Zip It on the top side and Sir Wrangler on the bottom coming 3 yr old filly who is for sale for an absolute steal. It would cost more to get a baby just on the ground with her breeding. She has pro training with one of the top trainers in the industry. Serriously, she is a steal!

I agree, we do need some stronger performance Appy's over here....Actually, good ( reasonably priced) show Appaloosa's are hard to come by.

Do you know where the Miracle Chip is standing?

Here is another young stud to watch http://www.money4color.com/
He is kicking butt all over the place and has not only the attention of the app world but the stock world in general. Breeding to him, I would imagine, is going to be very limited and he babies will sell for $$$$ but they might just be worth it...we shall see.
