| Senior Member | APHA World Show - My mini rant.
I guess it's not so mini. Well, if anyone remembers me or Tyson..we showed at the World Show in the 14-18 HUS. We didn't show in the Hunter Hack because I took Tyson to the practice and couldn't get him over the jump for the life of me. Honestly, I wasn't surprised..and that's why we had the practice! I would have been VERY pleasantly surprised if he did well with them. But that's OK. Anyways. We had a TOUGH cut. There were 22 in my cut..they did away with Semi-finals to save time, but that meant they could only pick 6 out of each cut. (3 cuts, 6 from each) The World Champ from last year was in my cut and didn't get through! The Reserve from last year in another cut also did not make it through. Not to mention multiple other World Champs that were in there too. I hadn't had a lesson with my trainer in a few weeks. I tried to get one, but never got a response. So I got there, and pretty much..she tells me that everything is wrong. So we had two days of hard training. Tyson was doing well, but I was worried he would was getting sore, so I kept him on a little bit of bute. The night before I showed, I talked with my trainer, and we decided that I would practice with her during the class before mine. I was down at the stall, and she never showed. I ended up practicing myself. I was actually by myself getting ready and never saw my trainer until 5 minutes before my cut. Literally, 5 minutes. I sent Tyson around a few times and she said he looked good. And he felt good! He was nice and light, and I could feel him really using himself. We trotted down the center and he felt awesome. I was excited..but as the class started, I could feel him falling on his forehand. As a result, he got faster..so I HAD to move to the rail, because it was so tight in there that if I stayed off the rail, I would look like I was racing around. And honestly, I didn't want to run into any judges. Lol, I'm not even kidding! So, to sum it up, Tyson went back to his old habits that I've been working on getting out of him, and we totally got covered up on the rail. I think I was seen during the first trot to the left, and that's it. I didn't make it through my cut. I got back to my stall and my trainer came up and told me everything I did wrong. She told me things that I did wrong, not only in the show ring, but the entire time preparing for the show. She insulted Tyson and his conformation (I know Tyson has faults..but come on)..it was frustrating. If she really knew all of these things beforehand, why didn't she tell me..before? Lol. And then a bunch of other things happened with her..and I'm pretty much done with my trainer now. It's been a long time coming, but this was the final straw. Anywho, I love Tyson, and our World Show ride was one of our better rides. I went to just try because it's my last year in youth. I didn't expect to move on, but of course I still had a little bit of hope. It was fun to go. Oh! And here is the ride. Please don't be too harsh. There are a million things I would have changed, but I was so worried about finding holes to go through. The ring was SO packed.

I was just going to PM you and ask how it went! Sorry you didnt do as well as you'd hoped, but it sounds like a great experience anyways! You should be proud of how far you got Wow that arena looks really small from this angle! The web cam makes it look gigantic and you guys do look crowded.

I was really happy that we got to show. I wouldn't be disappointed really if it weren't for my trainer.

I'm sorry to hear it didn't go as well as you had hoped. In the vids, it looked kind of like Tyson just zoned out on you and was going around the ring like lalalalala. Mine do that sort of thing, too. The bigger the show, the more likely they are to do it, too.

Haha yeah. He has his past training SO ingrained in him that he gets into the show ring and goes back to his old habits. There were a few times that he was good, but the rest was blah. He's been to the World Show twice before with two other people and that didn't help either..since he had those experiences to remember. He did get 5th in the 2 yr old HUS in 2005 though!

You look good! But, you were off the rail and had a couple strides on the incorrect lead into the canter- but he ended up correct. If the judges saw that, it's enough at Worlds to hurt you really bad. |

He actually wasn't on the incorrect lead. He just got really flat when I asked him to pick up the canter and he felt like pulling my chain a little bit by not picking it up at first. Lol. Little stinker. Oh, haha..if anyone knows how much that can hurt at the World, I do. In 2003, I was having a GREAT ride with my gelding in the finals for 13 & Under HUS. I placed 1st in my cut, and 2nd in the semis (the girl that got first won the class), and we had beaten everyone else that ended up placing ahead of us in the finals..and Sammy broke for about two strides during the second canter. 2 judges saw it and we ended up getting fifth. I was still super happy, but haha..we were set up for reserve. But, that's what separated us from reserve! So it's all good.
