Anyone know how to make tail extensions?

I want to make a real hore tail extension, and I'm trying to figure out what kind of glue is normally used to make them, and even more importantly what the black wrapping is on the top of the extension. It looks like some kind of shrink tape or something, but seems thinner and more pliable than most shrink tape. I've tried using shrink tubing and it's too thin and it does not have adhesive so it's difficult to work with if it does not adhere to itself. Any Quarter Horse people who are familiar with extension construction, I would greatly appreciate your help. I already bought the (expensive!) hair and don't want it to look jumky. Thank you!!

what you are probably seeing is simply electrical tape.. it's what i use, and what you will use to put the tail in as well.

I use a hot glue gun, some people use epoxy or human hair glue.

I have used the electrical tape but it peels up, so I put shrink tubing over the top. I have also used hot glue and the human hair glue. Wasn't sure what "real" extensions had in them. The real extensions I've seen look to have some kind of rubbery stuff. I can't figure it out. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one using electrical tape anyway! LOL I just thoguht whatever the rubbery stuff was would hold up to more use and wouldn't peel up when washed. I'm also trying to find the most affordable white hair by the pound. ANyone know of bulk hair places that are less expensive? Thanks Lopinslow!

I don't have any problems with electric tape peeling up?? although, when i'm washing it i don't soak the top of the plug, i wash starting an inch or so down from the bottom of the tape.

hair prices are pretty similar with both the suppliers i know of.

Do you put some kind of plastic cap on the end, or just glue the hair then add the ties or whatever attachment on the end? I've heard of some people using a cap of a medicine bottle or something similiar.

Tail extension maing is a very secrative craft! LOL I wish I could find out what the mystery rubber stuff is, but I suppose most tail makers don't want to divulge that kind of info. LOL Thanks for your help!

LOL This is a stupid question but where did you get the hair to start with if you are making it?

I bought it on ebay. I can't remember the name of the supplier off hand, but they sell a lot of native american crafty stuff. The hair is a little shorter than i wanted, but the white hair is so expensive my hubby would have strangled me if I would have spent what other places were asking. lol I think the sellers ID was standsbyriver or something like that.
