Anyone here have a Mule?

My neighbor has a team of draft mules and after seeing the mules on Dirty Jobs last night, I was wondering if anyone here has a mule(s)... If so, what do you do with them? Are they much different than horses?

I have a draft mule he is a coming 2 yr old. I also own a donkey and have for over 15yrs now. Mule's and donkey's are very different from horse's. They are very intelligent animal's and what I've found out is they don't likely forget things. They are an animal that will keep you on your toes when your working around them because they are always thinking and you have to stay ahead of them!!!

I have a friend that has mules. Buckskin colored all of them. She and her husband ride them all over and pack in with a couple caring supplies. They also have a couple that pull a wagon. I have always wanted to get into the wilderness rides with them but so far things haven't worked out. She may come to Texas this summer so we can get out and ride together.

Yep!! This is Ruth and she is being broke to drive and pull the feed wagon:

They are a lot like horses, but very different, too It takes a special temperment to work with mules, the calmer and softer you are the better you get along with them. Don't push a mule, but you can ask them to do anything and once they get it, they never have a problem remembering. They're good animals and great workers.

I LOVE ruth!!! My next equine purchase is supposed to be a draft mule, they are VERY costly in our area.

My BO has two mules and a donkey. She rides on one of the mules, Ruby, in English Equitation, and the other mule...well he's special, he needs work. Was supposedly, at some point, trained in western pleasure, but we can't get on him to see.

Here's Ruby:

I grew up around mules, I learned to ride on a mule and I hope to buy a mule of my own soon.
Doublebar is right, they are like horses, but they are so different. You never tell a mule to do anything, you always ask. They take a special hand, too rough and you end up with a problem, too light and you end up with a problem.

Very neat! Thanks for posting those pictures doublebarr and avasmom.

I'd never even been around a mule until I met my neighbor's draft mules.
