It sounds to me as if the horse needs to be put down, and law may see it "innocent until proven guilty." But in my eyes it is "guily until proven innocent."

I hope those people get in huge trouble, they don't deserve horses, or any other kind of animal, when you buy an animal, it's a big responsibility, and if you don't think you can support it, don't buy it in the first place. That's the right thing to do calling someone.

In all honesty I do have doubts as to the validity of this story.
I cannot imagine someone seeing a horse in the condition PalominoPaint says and not stop and try to talk to someone, and get something done immediatly to ease this horse's suffering.
The simple act of knocking on the door of the owner would have been the first step. If someone came to the door you could have then asked them if they knew about their horse. You would have then either found out the condition of the horse and what was or was not being done. If nothing was being done then you could take out your cell phone and call the police to handle the matter.
If no one answered the door...you then would take out your cell phone and call the police.
Riding on by and going home and trying to get in touch with someone they met before who is supposed to rescue horses....is wrong as it allows the horse to continue to suffer...and for how much longer? IF...this story is true and the horse's leg is broken and dragging...then this horse needed immediate attention.
This was not a case of a skinny horse, but of a horse SERIOUSLY injured!
Some other horse owner just driving by would have seen this horse's condition if this is true.
This story has several holes in it...
That is why I have my doubts....

That is awful. I can't stand people who treat their animals like that.

Some people are not only (NON)- horse inclined, but they go as far as being STUPID! People like that need to be punished!

I'm going to agree with Sandra. Someone needs to talk with the owners before anything is done. A lot of good names are dragged in the mud because people call the SPCA for a case of "neglect" when the person doesn't know the whole saying.

I'm not saying what you've seen isn't true, but the owners need to be talked to first, THEN you can call the SPCA if it's still right to do so.

I have not been on here for a long time. Becuse I was tacking care of a sick horse. To Sandra I could not knock on no door for there was no house there to knock on a door. This place is on a road that pepole verey realy go down. This place is about 2 to 3 acears of land with a six foot chanlinck fince around it. With a padlock on the gate. I thinck the pepol did know about this horse becus they put duck tape around it leg. And yes the pound was called and they where told about the horse. If you thick I am lieing about this story you can talk to my sister who was with me and saw the horse this way. So if there was a door that I could knock on and asked the pepole if they new how bad there horse was heart I would of. I did not just ride by this horse and just for got about it I did try and get help for the horse. Unlike some pepole that see a horse or any animal in trouble they just say some one eals will call. Or some one ealse will do some thing about it . At least I tried to help the horse. If I could of walked in to that horses pen and just took him I would have. I would of tacken him to my house called the vet and had him put down. But I gusse some pepole have some rude or smart remark that they have to say. If you dont want to belev my story about the horse you don't have to. If you don't beleave that I did not do every thing that I could to get that horse some help you don't have to. But I know what I saw and I know what I did to try and get that horse some help.

The owners don't always have to be spoken to first. especially from children or even other adults who know nothing.

SPCA or the Sheriff will make a calling to the property, even if there is no house there. They have the ability to know who the property is owned by and will contact the owners about the horse. Or if no owner can be reached, remove the animal if in danger.

Sometimes it is just better to CALL THE AUTHORITIES> because even if you confront them, you don't know if they are lying, and personally, it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS if you came and knocked on my door. Got a problem? Call the sheriff. He knows what is going on. If not, HE can come out and ask.
