| Senior Member | Anti-inflamitory shots? Hi I posted a couple months ago about my mare who has lead posioning. She has been through several treatments and everything improved but one, her breathing. We believe that her throat in inflamed and so whenever she moves around faster then a walk and breaths heavily, her throat closes down and she has trouble breathing. I have had her had really bad episodes of not being able to breath three times now and don't want her to have to go through this again. We are unsure as of right now if the inflamation will go down of its own accord or if it is permantant damage. Because lead posioning is so uncommon, we don't much to go on in other cases. However, there is a horse at my barn that had a major leg injury a while back. The vets recently gave him a shot to bring the inflamation down. The woman I board from thinks that maybe it tightens the inflamed areas so that the tissue is smaller. We are thinking that possibly we could do this with my mare to open up her airways. I have not yet called the vets to find out what the shot was and if they think it would work for my mare or not, but I will be very soon. I am wondering if anybody is familar with this shot and what they can tell me about it. We are also going to ask the vet about giving her bute or some other type of anti-inflamitory pain killer in the mean time to see if that helps. Thanks! |

| Senior Member+ | For the horse that has inflammation in the leg, tell the owner to get some comfrey leaves soak them in white vinager, place the soaked leaves around the leg, place soft cloth over and bandage...works like a treat swelling should be gone within 4 to 5 hours. For your horse I would recommend you give him rosemary and comfrey leaves (either fresh or dried)....give one handful of each in feed morning and night for as long as it takes for the throat to heal...the rosemary will help with any infection, the comfrey will help with any inflammation of the throat. This does work well...have used both herbs on horses with stringhalt that has effected the larynx...the horse roars instead of neighs and the throat....where they sometimes have breathing problems....(the breathing is how you discribed it). |

| Senior Member+ | Ask your vet about the possibility of running DMSO into her veins. It can be very useful for pulling out whole-body inflammation. Ok, I realize you don't "pull out" inflammation, but you pull out the issues that are causing the inflammation.
