| Senior Member+ | You know, I've always bought into the **** that it's not the dog, it's the owner. And yet, somehow, 98% of stories like this you hear are about pit bulls. It's not coincidence, folks. If I was that farm owner, I would've had a gun on premises. And it's so unbelievable that the dog owner's fines are so small, compared to the loss of the farm owner. |

| Senior Member+ | will the dogs owner be liable for the farms losses and vet bills? or will it cost the farm owner more money to take the jerkwad to court and sue him for the money

| Senior Member | it IS the owner and alot of the time people change the stories b/c "pit Bull attack" sounds better than "Lab Attack" It's all propaganda. I love pitts!

| Senior Member | I feel bad for the horse owner, glad the dog was put down. I believe the dog owner would be responsible for the vet bills and all.

| Senior Member+ | I think part of the justice system is at fault here. They had to be called out how many times before the dog was put down? It was only put down because it attacked the horses. You can bet if a kid had died there would be a huge investigation into why nothing was done prior when there were so many reports and offenses for this dog. So I want to know why nothing was done by the local AC or whoever was responsible, PRIOR to one horse dying and two being severely injured. For those saying its the owners fault not the dogs that is not entirely true. Just as horses have a prey instinct, other animals have predator instincts. Unfortunately its just a bit stronger in pitbulls because people have bred them that way. I know a family who bought a pitbull that was a family pet. Sweet as could be, practically a lap dog. They owner her all their life and never encouraged her to do anything like fighting. They ended up having a 2 year old kid who the pit also would snuggle with etc. But one day the kid was running around in the backyard, screaming and playing. The pit took after the kid and then proceeded to rip up his face. He was in surgery for hours and his face is still severely scared. This was not the owners fault but more the breeders since they bred this personality and strong predator instinct into the pit. THere are some pitbulls that still have a good personality and are usually bred for the show ring or by backyard breeders. But if anyone buys one with a strong fighting instinct, it wont matter how its raised you can only mask instinct not remove it. Pitbulls are not the only breed with bad issues like this, they are just the strongest and can cause the most damage thus making them news worthy. The chihuahua's are so overbred right now that a lot of them have nasty personalities. But seriously what newspaper is going to run the reel "30 year old attacked by chihuahua.. no harm done". The dog is so small you can easily escape it or pick it up or stop it. A pitbull was bred for strength so its not so easy to escape

You cant be serious... I agree on the owners resposibility, to not have these dogs if they cannot contain them...but it is an instinct in these dogs...it's not just a coincidence. If a Lab had killed a horse, it also would have made the news around here.

| Senior Member+ | That is so sad. I have strong feelings about pitbulls but will not put them here. I'll just simply say I dont like them and leave it at that. The dog owner SHOULD be responsible for the vet bills...

| Senior Member+ | I have to disagree that it's all about how these dogs are raised...and YES, I have known a couple of NICE pits, and a few not so nice...(and the not so nice pits werent raised to fight)... It's something called instinct... and whether it comes out in a dog is the million dollar question. Australian Shepards have the herding instinct...many hunting breeds have the retriever instinct (I had one that could flush out quail like nobodies business, never "trained" him to do it)...and the list goes on.
