Cool Another mane thread... I finally shortened it.

I'm not done with it (I want it a little shorter and a little more even), but what do you think? Yeah I know the pictures aren't very good for comparison... I'll get a posed photo of the new look this weekend.

I do too, but I'd much prefer see a tidy short mane, than a SCRAGGLY long one. If her's had been full and thick, I'd have never touched it... but it wasn't and she always looked messy to me. She looks so sharp and polished now, and I think she'll look even better when I'm done. Not to mention, she's got a lovely neck. :-D

She looks older! Like in a mature, I'm a real horse way.

She looks great, now you can see more of her physique which is very nice. My mare has a mane that same color but is a darker chestnut/white combination.
Your girls mane looks so nice and silky smooth now. She probably doesn't give a hoot about it but our horses are here to look pretty for us!

she looks a lot better, how come when you cut a long mane it goes thick?

Because there are more hairs at the top of a mane than at the bottom. That is why the ends of a mane look wispy.

If you cut the long hairs off then the weight of them can no longer pull the mane down as flat as before. The result is a bouncier, fuller looking mane.

This CAN be very bad though if cut poorly or not thinned enough by pulling. Some horses have very thick manes and will end up looking like they're wearing a long paintbrush down their necks...

If you trim carefully, pull some and make sure it looks natural rather than blunt it can be a very good look.

I think it looks really nice.. I can't tell which one I like more, though. Pretty horse you have there.

I like it! It'll look even better when it's a bit shorter too. I love a nice short mane, they look so much tidier!
