Annie updates (new pics pg 9&10) from WSU VTH

For everyone who is following Annie's story. I decided to start her a thread over here since this is now health related and not a foaling issue.

I received a call from Annie's doctor a bit ago. And here is what she has to say!

Annie received 1 liter of Plasma last night and this morning they pulled an IgG level this morning. Here levels are now in the 400-800 range. While this is good they want her to be over 800 so this morning they are giving her another liter of Plasma and that should be all she needs but they will do another IgG tomorrow.

Her hocks are septic. A normal level in her hocks would be 500. Her left hock is 116,00 and the Right hock is 80,000. They flushed her joints last night and started her on a broad spectrum anitibiotic. Tomorrow they will remove her wraps and re-evalute and possibly flush them again.

It takes 3-5 days for the cultures to grow from the fluid they removed from her hocks, but the doctor said that most likely whatever bacteria is infecting the hocks is also in the bloodstream. But as soon as they know what the bacteria is then they can adjust her meds accordingly.

Temp. is NORMAL today!!!!

Her CBC panel is BORING, nothing significant there are a few changes but those are to be expected!

All organs are functioning good!

Annie has decided that she is a big girl at 10 days old and loves her Foal lac pellets and hay too! They are also teaching her to take her milk from a bucket so we won't have to bottle feed her!

It would appear that Annie is really responding to treatment and we are on the road to recovery!

I will update when I hear from WSU! Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement, prayers, and warm wishes and all your advice!

P.S. I forgot to tell you guys, that she is getting up on her own now, talking with all the horses around her and begging for attention! They have another sick foal coming in this morning so those who have been assigned to Annie have been instructed to NOT handle the other foal NO MATTER WHAT. And she is kinda isolated from eveyone else but not totally isolated!

Tina, I think we need to have a fund raiser for you when this is all done... I shudder to think of the bill at the end of it all and truly commend you for doing above and beyond the call of duty to try to save this little girl.

I just can't believe someone would not take the time to treat the umbilical cord, etc at birth, sigh.... Annie is definately a fighter, that's got to help her odds greatly!

Karyn, I am open to any and all suggestions. I think I am going to sell my brand new Wintec Dressage saddle I have used it 2 times and comes with the complete easy change system all the different gullets sizes, saddle cover, and carrier thing! I am trying to figure out what I could possibly ebay or have a yard sale with.

HEY a community yard sale is something you can try to put together with 10% of all proceeds going to the "Save Annie Fund" and you work for the local newspaper so I'd think they'd be willing to do a story on it to get interest going for you. Also, I can put an event like that up on our website Events Calender for the Magazine free of charge!

I will definitely pitch in and help with the medical bills. I think it is great that you have gotten her such great help. I really hope her former owner knows that all of this could have been avoided... but I bet I am wasting my thoughts because they do not care.

It reminds me of a neighbor who never pulls his mares off fescue... thank goodness I was there when the foal was arriving... it was hung a bit coming out and I flat told him you better go help your mare and make sure that sack gets open asap. *sigh*

Hugs and prayers.
