Animal Rights is NOT Animal Welfare

Here's a great page I found. http://www.animalscam.com Here's a good article I got from it.

Animal Rights Is Not Animal Welfare

Throughout most of history, human beings adopted more and more enlightened standards of animal "welfare" for their pets, livestock, and laboratory animals. Insisting on humane treatment for animals was an important economic decision. Farmers know that happy livestock animals produce more milk, better beef, and more valuable leather. Medical researchers know that their scientific work is meaningless without healthy lab animals. Animal welfare standards are just one way humans acknowledge the important bond between us and the animal world.

But beginning in the second half of the twentieth century, activists lost their way. Instead of striving to strengthen this relationship by improving the lives of animals in our care, an extremist movement began attempting to terminate that connection entirely. Today, we call it the animal "rights" movement.

Animal-rights activists believe that animals should be completely separate from humankind. Their goal is to guarantee that the human race has absolutely no access to animals, no matter how important they may be for our survival and progress.

Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder and president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), summed up the goal of today's modern animal rights movement in a recent speech. "Our goal," Newkirk told the Animal Rights 2002 convention, "is total animal liberation."

For the uninitiated, "total animal liberation" means permanently eliminating much of what we take for granted-regardless of how responsibly farmers, scientists, or trainers treat their animals. It may be hard to imagine a world without meat, eggs, leather, milk, or circuses; but there's no denying that animal-rights activists are gradually shifting these ordinary things to society's margins.

How? By consciously, shamelessly, viciously attacking people and businesses that don't subscribe to their "four legs good, two legs bad" world-view. Since the animal rights movement began gathering strength, over $100 million in property damage has been cause by animal-rights activists. A medical research executive was beaten with baseball bats. Countless death threats have been issued. Scientists have been sent razor blades in the mail. Trucks and buildings have been firebombed. Boats have been sunk.

"People have died, and are going to die," said former Animal Liberation Front "spokesperson" and SHAC organizer Kevin Kjonaas at the "Animal Rights 2002" convention. "This isn't a joke. It's not a game."

Here's just a partial list of what supporters of this violence-prone movement want us all to do without:

Food
Bacon
Beef
Butter
Cheese
Chicken
Eggs
Hamburgers
Honey
Kosher slaughter
Milk
Milk chocolate
Omelets
Pork
Turkey
Veal
Clothing
Angora sweaters
Cashmere blazers
Fur coats
Leather belts
Leather jackets
Leather shoes
Leather wallets
Silk scarves
Silk stockings
Silk ties
Wool scarves & mittens
Wool sweaters
Worsted wool suits
Sports & Entertainment
Aquariums
Bullfighting
Circuses
Equestrian competition
Fishing
Greyhound racing
Horse racing
Horse-drawn carriages

Hunting
Magic shows using animals
Movies with animal actors
Pet ownership
Ranching
Rodeos
Whaling
Zoos
Science & Nature
Agricultural pesticides
Biology-class dissection
Fish farms
Medical research using animal test subjects
Surgical training using live animals

In the United States today, there are over 100 organizations dedicated to enforcing this animal "rights" mentality. Their annual budgets total more than $200 million. And they're deadly serious about achieving their goals.

In contrast, the people who are doing the most to promote animal welfare today are the very ones that the animal rights movement wants to put out of business.

Farmers can't survive without carefully-tended livestock. Many medical advances depend on the meticulous care given to lab animals. Anglers and hunters have a vested interest in the sustainability of animal populations that are vital to their sport. And millions of children learn important life lessons by visiting zoos and aquariums-and by loving and caring for dogs, cats, and other pets.

In a dishonest attempt to turn ordinary Americans against the responsible stewardship of animals, animal-rights activists have historically polluted the arena of ideas with shrill rhetoric, headline-grabbing stunts, and violent crimes. Their louder-is-better mentality threatens to further blur the line between animal welfare and animal rights. The consequences of this for our way of life would be disastrous.

If you want to support the humane treatment of animals, by all means support your local animal shelter, your local humane society (not the animal-rights-oriented Humane Society of the United States), or your local zoological park. It's true that animals deserve your help. But animal-rights organizations do not.

KUDO"S, BAVO!!! I LoVE THAT POST. !!!!!

Animal Rights actually, by what they do, are actual TERRORISTS! DId you know that? They attempt to bring you to their ideas by TERRORIZING you and your company. Maybe Bush, in his second term, focus on them as well on the war on terror!

Yeah I've seen on the American news (I got satellite so we get 5 American channels LOL!!! Fox and ABC and I dunno what else LOL Go me!) stuff about groups using car bombs and burning down laboratories and stuff. Does that really make sense? I mean "Save the animals from medical experiments! Burn down the labs with the animals in them!" LOL I've also heard stuff about anti-abortion people shooting and car bombing abortion doctors. So hypocritical!

LOL! Yeah I guess Bush's "War on Terrorism" should include PETA and other groups like that! LOL!

I think they are being a little bit extreme. If hunters didn't hunt, there would be an overpopulation and many would probably starve from lack of food (I personally don't hunt). Sheep aren't killed for their wool, just shaved so I don't see why theres any harm in that. Im sure those wool coats get pretty hot! Zoos are educational and help preserve endangered species, and as far as i've seen they seem well kept. I don't eat meat, but its not because I think its wrong, I just don't like it. Using animals for testing is sad to me, but you have to think of why its happening. And my filly would never make it in the wild!!! She would fall apart! I think they are going a bit too far, im all for animal welfare and I think every animal should be treated well, but that is a bit much.

if we dont eat the animals or hunt them they will just die from starvation and they will "take over the world!!" (LOL)

i actually had a kid at school who LOVES PETA and there are like 4 ppl in my class that have horses and he said that we shouldnt keep our horses in stalls and they should be left alone in a HUGE pasture where they cant see a fence.
now, did he ever get it!! we all turned on him and gave him every story about our horses and such.

Fiona really dislikes being outside. she'd rather be inside where she can see al the ppl and other events going on. she comes right up to the gate.

then he told me that i shouldnt ride her anyways. because its cruel to them.

well...Fiona gets TORKED at me when i dont ride her. she'll pin her ears back when i brush her, put the saddle on her. its not until i get the bridle ready for her that she warms up to me. thats how much she loves to work. and she loves to learn. she turns everything into a game i guess u could see.

i'm for animal welfare though. animals need to be respected for who and what they are

Oh yeah, I'm all for Animal Welfare! Hence the title It's totally different than Animal Rights though. It's the humane treatment of animals. Most rodeo associations have sweet animal welfare programs.

The Day my dogs can legally vote for President of the USA and pay the mortgage, taxes and for their own bloody DOG FOOD (which I spend $300 a month on, SIGH, and you all thought HORSES were expensive to feed??? LOLOL) My dogs can have RIGHTS! Until then, they are under 100% WELFARE around here and it's my responsibility to make sure my Dogs, horse, sheep, even the stray barn cats (we round up new ones and have them spayed or neutered) are cared for in a human, fair, manner in the way I'd want to be treated if they rulled the world... Well OK my dogs pretty much DO rule my world, LOL... We bought this house for the dogs, I drive particular Cars because of the dogs, now the horse has his own Pick up Truck and Trailer with me to be chauffer.... Wait a minute, I guess they DO have rights! LOLOL.

Isn't it a sad fact that extremists ruin EVERYTHING for everyone always??? I know it is sad to be at a dog show that is outdoors, usually near highways, etc, and hear the call over the loudspeakers DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ANIMALS UNATTENDED PETA IS HERE! Animal Rights Extremists believe it is much better to my dog to turn him loose out of his crate or his pen or out of my RV loose into an unfamiliar area where he could get lost at best and killed by a vehicle, or shot by a farmer for looking like a wolf, or harassing that farmer's livestock, etc, then to let my dog live the life he's very much enjoying. I have three dogs at my feet right now and two more laying about the house. OMG what a HORRID life they are living!!!!! Snort, snicker, sniff

Good post to remind us how fragile things are right now with our RIGHT to own and ensure the WELFARE of our animals!

I have to say that is completey ridiculous and just a bit too extreme. Yes, I believe in animal welfare. What are we supposed to live off of...fruit and berries? No no no, b/c then they'll come out with "plant rights". LOL. I don't see why they would forbid horse competitions or rodeos either, or even animal actors. People usually take good care of their animals, and that's what's important. Anyways w/o competitions, rodeos, and animal actors there wouldn't be much enjoyment and fun in life now would there? LOL

You guys have all said very good comments on this I was just reminded about it the other day when my mom got an e-mail from our friends about PETA showing up in Calgary during the Stampede (it's going on now). They're not actually at the rodeo, they can't get in LOL Gee wonder why? They'd probably let all the bulls loose to maul everybody but anyways....They were waving around signs saying "Mr.Ed wants his balls untied" and **** LMAO! First off, that's just not classy, and second the horses "balls" aren't even touched...if they're lucky enough to have them that is LOL

It's weird cuz there's not any PETA activity in Canada, except a little Ontario I think (over furs or something). I've never seen them or even heard of them until we got the internet LOL I think it's the first time PETA has been in Alberta. My mom's friends said that people were throwing stuff at the PETA people and yelling not so friendly things at them LOL Serves them right for protesting in COWTOWN! LOL

Wylde> that's crazy! they show up at DOG SHOWS and do that?!!! Holy crow that's pretty low...and insane.
