| Senior Member+ | Who said anything about extensive use? Use it when you need it !! They won't run out, endorphins get released everytimes a racehorse races and that's a lot of races for 16 y.o mare who still has enough endorphins to be "Tapped" if she needed it........ Why is there no limit to how many kids a male can produce ? Keep it just for an emergency then, I'm not telling you to use it, the choice is yours.. I hope your horse is cute forever. Also, a lot of people get those "mustangs and unruly horses" shot, because they are just too hard to handle and are dangerous, cold but true... |

| Senior Member+ | Haha, they better not be shot here! I think that's SOMEWHAT illegal ....!!! Oh no no no no I wasn't saying you're pressing for extensive use!!! I understand what you're going for. BUT....I think that some people might see it as a miracle solution and rely on this method for everything. You know what I mean? I think you should kind of advertise it to be used on a minimal basis....just in case the brain DOES stops producing endorphins ;-) And my bad on confusing endorphins and serotonin... |

| Senior Member | I don't really see what the big deal is here. Caterina and I have been using natural endorphin release methods to relax our horses fora long time, as part of our "warm-up stretches." It's not a big secret. However, neither of us have used it to the point of making our horses lie down, and I guess that issue alone is what's causing most of the controversy here. No, it's not a drug, it's something the horse's body produces naturally. BUT, I'd be hesitant to do this personally, because I don't know if there are any adverse reactions to a "temporary endorphin overdose." Yeah, it's a natural chemical, but so is all the stuff found in a spleen or liver, and if those chemical leak into the horse's system it can kill him or her. I've never heard of a horse dying from an endorphin overdose, but it's not a chance I really feel like taking...I'm gonna do some more research before attempting a "full tap." One thing I have to question though is that the "full tap" seems an awful lot like an equine Ecstasy pill. Think about it; ecstasy forces the brain chemical seratonin, which is related to memory, pleasure, mood, and sleep functions, to be released in abnormally large amounts. The neurons (brain cells) that store seratonin are deformed or destroyed. Scientists have found that these injured neurons can regrow, but they may grow back abnormally or in the wrong locations. When Ecstasy wears off, the overflow of seratonin reverses to a lack of seratonin. Without enough seratonin it is difficult to sleep, learn, remember, or feel happy." I'm not a scientist, but if an over-stimulation of seratonin can have harmful effects, don't you think there's an inherent risk that the same could be true for endorphins? For the record, I'm not saying that the "tap" is a bad thing when used in moderation. As I said before, I often give my horses a quick neck stretch, not enough to make them sleepy, but enouh to let them feel some of the endorphins. However, I certainly wouldn't use a "full tap" for anything other than helping a horse who can't possibly be otherwise trained. I think the key to having a happy, healthy, well-trained horse is experience, consistancy, and patience. With those three factors readily at hand, you shouldn't need to make your horse fall asleep to get him or her to trust you. -SugarPony |

| Senior Member+ | You probably never need the "Full-tap" in your equine life but, if you do need it it's there... ( Is there an echo in here ? ) Also, if your horse goes to Harvard, then don't "Tap" him... If your horse says "Tap me,Tap me" then send him to rehab... They will sit down and rest before they OD... Does a horse anyone of those horses in the photo's look stressed ? |

| Senior Member+ | I mean , I loved those guys, Every since Maurice died I just haven't been the same. I know I should let it go but I just don't want to just yet.. Also, I think Barry and Robin did the right thing by calling quits, because there will only ever be three of them ... |
