| Senior Member+ | Another way to look at it is like this; Turning the horse's head and twitching will burn up the horse's energy, now how fast this energy burns depends on that individual horse, they are all different but most of them fit into two catagories, 1) The slow burning oil lamp ...................the quiet ones 2) GASOLINE........................................th e scatter brains (These are the one the twitch will not work on) Because I have had plenty of practice, I can have the No.2's looking up at me in about 15 seconds because they burnt up all their energy being a scatter brain... If you have a No.1 class horse, you are so lucky and you will probably never need to "Full-tap" them, the "Half-tap" is more than enough to send them to zzzzzz land.. | Senior Member+ | I want my diploma right now please. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...x/100_1205.jpg Scoot half asleep. Notice no halter, no bridle, nothing. It doesn't take power to hold your horses head there. Thankfully Scoot would eat himself for me, and once he understood I wanted his head in one certain place, all I had to do was rock him back and forth. He kept his head there (I was leaning against it though just in case he decided to move it) Notice how relaxed he is, half asleep almost. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...x/100_1203.jpg Me kneeling beside him. (check out my eyes...wicked cool) http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...x/100_1204.jpg Scratching his forelock. So if your horse is willing enough to stand there calmly for you, I trust that you probably wouldn't need a bridle or a halter. Or maybe I just have a very very quiet horse? BTW, This is Tagit Bar Perfection, my two year old paint gelding. And please excuse his mohawk! LOL. |

| Senior Member+ | The pictures are crappy because there isn't a program that will resize my pictures, only crop them. There were way over 1000x1000 to begin with, so my only hope of getting them small enough to upload quickly was to crop them as small as possible. There was only me there to take pictures, no one to help me, so I'm sorry if they aren't that great. I tried my best to show. I would have some of me actually leaning on him, but that required both hands, so no way was I able to get pictures of that. |

| Senior Member+ | This is very interesting and I may try it! I have several questions though... 1. Is a half-tap just the same process as a full-tap yet you don't encourage/make them lie down? You said on your website you could pull their head to either side, just the offside was easier for a full tap. 2. You also said that clapping or a loud noise will snap them out of it, yet you also said that the endorphins will last for awhile afterwards I would really like to try it though for when Isabel needs her whiskers clipped it is just way to tickly for her yet the clippers don't scare her at all...would it work to calm her down some? Muchas Gracias!!

| Senior Member+ | Hi Phillip, 1. If you dont want them to lie down and they start to, straight their head back up. Because every horse is different how long they stand up is up to you to play with so just try a little at a time gradually holding for longer each time. Either side is fine, but your arm will fall off trying to hold their sleepy heavy head up turn to the near-side. 2. Yes you can snap them out of it anytime, just do something that will get their attention and they will turn on again like pressing a key on the keyboard of a computer on standby.. The endorphins will stop flowing once the horse head straightens up again. They will linger a little after that until diluted by the regular bloodflow, but the energy you just used will give you a small window of opportunity to do certain task. Sometimes I use this to get on a horse that I know will go ballistic when I get on for the first time, I know after I see the legs going, I can get on and get ready before the horses energy come back to do anything about it, then I just turn them is small circle gradually walking them out and they are fine. Before I use to have someone try and hold them and had a lot of trouble.. |

| Senior Member+ | Lucky_pine your horse is so cool... ( I don't think men use cute ? ) And you are good too for taking this step.. All the horses in any of the photo's sitting or lying are just resting, you can get them up anytime you want, but their so cute like that.. Also, this isn't for sale now, it all on my site for anyone to view for free, I'm only asking for a donation if it helps you.. Last edited by Endorphins4u2; 12-29-2005 at 09:13 PM. |
