I tried your "tap" on my boy. Well he is so laid back that it is hard to tell if there is any difference. i tried in halter and bit...no change. A mare whinnied and that ended any future hope that moment and when all was silent he just stood there looking a little perplexed and lazy...which is the way he always looks....LOL | ||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hey i just used the "half tap" today and it worked great! i just got my mare shod and whenever she gets shod i worm her the same day so i dont forget and miss a week or something. anyway... so i walk up with the worming paste. *all is fine* i go and pat her with the worming paste in my hand *all is fine* i halter her and bring her to the hitching rail *all is fine* i go to stick the worming paste tube in the corner of her mouth * EXPLOSIONS!!! *i try to calm her down and try again but she flips out, throws her head around and starts jumping backwards and spinning away from me. she almost goes backwards through her yard fence. i am still trying to hang onto the halter and at the same time put the tube in her mouth. every time she feels the tube she freaks out again. so i get my friend there Nikki to hold the tube while i calm her down. without missing a beat i pull her head towards me until its almost touching her shoulder. i hold it there for a while and her eyes start to glaze a little bit. "What ARE you doing?" asks Nikki who has just walked in and witnessed the whole fiasco. "You'll see." i say. "Now can you hand me the worming paste?" Nikki hands me the paste and stands way back from the yard. i get the tube and stick it in the corner of her mouth and squirt the worming paste into the back of her mouth. my horse barely blinks at this process. afterward i release the tap and continue to stroke her face and rub her all over as a reward. "Whoa... what was THAT?" asks Nikki. "THAT was the endorphin tap!" i tell her with a smile. my horse is happily nuzzling me for treats and she is safe from worms for another 8 weeks. she hasnt trodden on herself, hurt herself, or hurt me in the process. pretty soon i wont need the tap, but for now i'm glad to know its there when i DO need it. |

| Senior Member+ | ok i can kinda see how it would do some good for diffrent things. but another point i am trying to make its that if you have a strong bond with your horses you should not need to use it/ but thinking about it i can see how you might use it for well such as above deworming or maybe on a horse that was badly abused and may need a calm down fast before injurying themselves ? am i right or wrong ?

I, am using the tap to teach gracie i am no harm to her, when she's vulnerable, i pet her, and talk softly, it just sets up the scnario as where i'd walk up to her in her stall while she's laying down. I totaly understand where you are coming from, and to some points i agree, but i am open to all kinds of methods

| Senior Member+ | Yes, thank you ..God, Alla, Budah, Abraham all of you up there... (no offence) Anyway, like you said once they get over their silly little phobia, you don't need the "Tap" , it's just like riding a bike, once you get up and going, your fine... The "full-tap" is the same for the one's that don't go all the way down, once they are down and they realise sitting there is easier then trying to stand so eventually they just lie down themselves.. Every horse is different so just play with this until you find an easy way for you and your horse, some sensitive ones literally fall over as soon as you turn there heads.. Thank you Sweet Savannah... |
