You know, I was thinking a bit ago.. Has anyone ever watched those old westerns on TV? You remember when cowboy was shot and the horse was supposed to fall.. what did he do.. pull the horses head around to the side. Even in the movies that showed calvary riders laying their horses down so they could use them as a shield.. how did they do it, they turned their horses head to the side. Now obviously these horses eventually took the head turn as a cue to lay down, but I wonder if this is part of the reason they use that as a cue, because a horse will lay down if you do that. I think ED4U's horse probably does it so fast now because he takes it as a cue to lay down, but I imagine the first few times were not so fast. | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I would not dismiss this theory. Accupressure, which is pressure put on certain areas of the body to relive pain, releases endorphins which will aleviate the pain. I personally have had this done and know the spots to appy pressure when I have a sinus headache or when my neck is hurting and it does give relief. Endorphins have been clinicly studied and your body produces them. They are there for a reason and I can see his method is something a horseperson could apply in certain situations. A responsible horseperson should be open minded and willing to learn new things. |

| Full Member | Please don't leave Endorphins4u2. I find it interesting, though I know it's nothing new. I think it's just new to some people. Enjoyed your website. IMO the technique is kinda like using a tie down (for example) some people use them regularly and some people wouldn't dare. That's the beauty of freedom, we all choose our ways and learn from things that do or don't work for us. Just having a horse to love and enjoy time with is a priviledge and handling ways and techniques are always going to be involved. I hope this makes sense. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Further to my post #134. I don't see where Endorphins suggested this in place of trainning. Anything that will calm your horse in certain situations is at least worth exploring and gaining knowledge. It is a natural chemical the body produces so I would not call it drugging. I give the man credit for persisting. ![]() |

| I personally would like to see the original poster in other areas of this forum rather than just promote one idea ( not that promotion of an idea is a bad thing.). It is hard to judge anyone's intentions without seeing what sort of advice would be given in other areas of horsemanship and life in general. | |

| Senior Member+ | Ehhh. I've done lots of acupressure work with Kayle. I'm a believer in it, and acupuncture. I don't really know about this tap thing, though. The videos looked an awful lot like...oh, how do I say it....like a conditioned response? But I can't really say the horses looked all that thrilled about lying down, they looked, well....drugged. Like a dog coming out of anesthesia, almost, picking up their heads like "omgwtf" but not being able to stand up just yet. I'm not going to knock the fact that endorphins may be released by turning a horse's head. The lying down part, though [as evidenced] has to be encouraged by pushing the horse over. Hence....creating a conditioned response. Or maybe I'm using that term wrong. Forgive me, it's been several years since Psych 101.
