After a 45 page thread... BABY HAS ARRIVED!!! (new pics page 5, and page 11!)

Boyfriend David and I went out and checked on Bay around 10pm. She didn't seem to be in any kind of distress, discomfort, pain, NOTHING. But she was leaking milk like a bucket with a hole in it. She was still holding her tail up from time to time, but that was about it. Never quit eating. I guess those were mild contractions, I dunno. David's comment was "I'll be glad when she has that thing." So we hung out with her for about30-45 minutes. She finally got bored with us (or uncomfortable) and moseyed on off, stuffing her face.

So we went back to his house, got there about 11:15. I decided to catch a nap there, then go back and check her again around 2-3am. I got up at 2:45 and headed out, go to the pasture around 3:15. When I got there, Bay was standing in one of her usual spots. I clucked to her, and expected her to come ambling on up to the gate, and she didn't. She popped her head up like she always does, but never moved. I knew something was up immediately and figured she was in labor. So I take the gate chain loose (with camera, phone, and flashlight in hand just in case) and head on that way at a decent clip. I get in sight of her belly and can tell it's still round. I get around the hay bale where she's standing, waiting on her to lay down any second. But there was no need for that - baby was already up walking around, and almost completely dry! Dangit! Bay had no umbilical cord hanging, so she must have already passed placenta too! So naturally, I flop down to play with baby and here HE comes. So sweet!! He's already getting the hang of his stilts, and doesn't look contracted - if so, only mildly - thank goodness it's nothing like I was expecting. He's also pretty small, considering! VERY sweet, inquisitive, and already a joy to be around. Cant wait til daylight for some GOOD pics!!

So, without further ado....

Meet RANSOM!! (Or Handsome Ransom, as I've dubbed him already )

(look at that dish in that face!)

poor Bay, I'm sure she's ready to ger her girlish figure back!

Oh I dunno... he looks pretty darn big to me! LOL! He's quite a bit more "filled out" than other newborns. His legs DO look great.

I think he's just GORGEOUS! CONGRATS!!!!!!

Curious... can you tell what color his eyes are yet? Does he have a dorsal stripe (get a pic? )?

his eyes look light brown. hard to tell, i'll get better pics in the daylight. he does look like he has a "dorsal", but i was chalking it up to baby coat, because i have no idea where he could get any dun factor from.

i know dad carries a red gene since he's had two palomino babies. looks like mom might carry one too, huh? looks like he's gonna have two white hooves, cant tell leg markings yet. love the blaze though! i hope it stays that wide, but i know it's not apt to.

i didnt get to see him nurse yet. but it looks like he has, mom had one ninny that looked wet and slobbery, and it was more bulbous at the end than the other one. i did see him pass a little meconium though, woohoo!

YAY sounds great!

Oh mom has to carry red, yup. I'm just debating exactly what type of red you've got there. I think he may be palomino... but I really do wonder if he could be red dun or dunalino. Dun can be hard to trace in a pedigree when it runs with cream since they can only register one or the other. Dad doesn't really look grullo, but I've seen some dark ones and this baby sure is interesting.

I can't WAIT for daylight pics! YAY!!
