Adopted a mustang!

Okay, went to see the pregnant mare today before making a final decision to buy her. Well it turns out that there was a wild horse adoption going on in the same town, so we went to check it out. We ended up adopting a 5 year old beautiful gelding for $25.00. He's about 14.3-15 hands tall & weighs about 1200#. He has apparently been handled by humans because he let me pet him all over & even let me play with his ears. He is not halter broke, but I have a feeling that won't take long. He's bay with a star & one white hind sock. His feet are huge & his legs are very thick. When we finally got him home, it was dark. Will take pics & post them sometime tomorrow. I don't know how to look up freezemarks, so if someone would look it up for me, here it is: 00216464. Thank you in advance!

Thanks! I'm kind of nervous about it though because I don't know what to expect. Can anyone tell me when it will be safe to let him out with the other horses? They've already come up to him & "introduced' themselves & all he did was sniff them & walk off. He does not seem aggressive at all. As far as the price, the younger horses were $50.00 & the older horses (4 years old & up) were $25.00. He is incredibly healthy looking & has been in captivity for a year & 1/2. He has had a clean bill of health with every vet check. He's really shiny & does not have a long winter coat.

Oh wow!! What a surprise!! Are you still going to get that mare then, or not? You must post pictures! He sounds like a sweetie though. Congrats and have fun with your wild mustang!

Well, he loaded with a LOT of encouragement! LOL! A BLM worker stood outside the loading chute & gave him a good smack on the butt & he went right in! I had a halter with me & she tried to put it on him, but it was too small! He did fine for haltering, but wouldn't ya' know it didn't fit. I have a halter for a large horse that should fit him fine. That's one of the first things we're working on.

I would assume he would be great with other horses, since horses are naturally heard animals...and he was once wild...as long as he isn't being agressive towards a gelding (if you have one) since he would have been gelded late...

Thanks for the site!
Yes, we have a gelding that's almost 8 years old & a 22 month old filly. They've been keeping him company out there. I checked on him about 30 minutes ago & he's being very quiet. No kicking or whinnying, nothing. I think he's going to be alright.
No, we're not getting the mare right now. Maybe later, but I want to see how things go with the new guy. I like the running horse thingy! LOL! That's so cute!
Can you guys help me with a name?
