Question Added ?: How do YOU memorize tests? / Updated USDF Dressage Tests?

edit: How do you all learn your tests? I'm thinking of litterally DOING the test myself, on the ground. LMAO. I know I will look like an idiot...but I feel that may be the way to go! So how do you guys do it?

****
ORIGIONAL POST

I know 2003 was the most recent, but I thought I heard there were new tests this year? Does anyone know if thats true? I tried looking up online but could only find the 2003 tests.

I want to start learning the tests...have a show in a couple months and I have a terrible memory! LOL

Yup! New tests every 4 years. The last couple of cycles, the tests have gotten harder, but this year they actually got easier. (And shorter!)

Bring Stevey down and you can show with us this year!

I had one of my clients do the test herself over and over again while she was at work. Also, those markerboards with the dressage ring can be very helpful, you can just continually write it down, over and over.

We usually set up a minature dressage arena out of lunge lines in the barn aisle. Then someone calls the test while you w/t/c on your own feet in the "arena". It looks silly, but it really works.

Edited to add: Also, I memorize in patterns, NOT letters. (I.e., across the diagonal, not HXF. Or canter in the corner, circle in the middle, etc.) That's just the way I learn best.

CG - can't help with the dressage part of it, but to memorize patterns in my classes I break it down into parts and work on one section at a time. I "ride" it in my head as often as I can before the class. And, we don't get our patterns till the day of the show Reining patters and RCH/WCH patterns are established so you can study those before hand, but you don't know which one they'll use till that morning. Trail and Horsemanship patterns are never the same so those take a little more "study" time each day. Like I said, just break it down into parts and memorize one part at a time. Good luck!

Lol, I don't think I would memorize my test a couple months prior...come time to ride the test I'd have thought it over way too much and get myself all confused and mixed up..lol!!

When I memorize tests, I look it over at home, read through it a couple times and draw it out on paper. Then I ride through it once.

If it's a schooling show (percentage day) you're allowed to have a reader.
