Exclamation acting dumb without other horses

jus bought a horse from an auction (she was just too pretty to become dog food) and she is a real sweet horse, with other horses but as soon as you take her away from her buddies she loses all sense ofdirection and becomes very stubborn and she will do little rears and side step if you have any ideas on how to stop this it would be very helpful we were also thinking about breeding her she is a percheron paintand possibly has some quarter in her too she is beautiful paint so if you have any ideas of what we could breed her to it would be helpful she looks like a gypsy vanner

young and/or herd-bound. not secure without her mates. ground work in short frequent sessions is required until she settles a bit. you are new to each other, take the time to learn about her and teach her about you : )

i cannot discuss breeding of horses as my opinion and delivery of it are not gentle, encouraging, promotional or consoling in any way and i am not mature enough to alter them for public consumption.

VERY uncomfortable by herself. She is not being stubborn, she is telling you that she lacks a great deal of confidence to be able to deal with what you want her to do. Don't try to train her in that state - doesn't work. You have to start by putting her in a situation where she's comfortable so she can focus on you.

Don't breed her. Why would you? She's a mutt rescue. Please don't take a horse who was headed to slaughter because no one wanted her or could afford to take care of her, and create another one just like her. Because of her mixed breeding, you have absolutely no guarantees that she would produce a foal with decent conformation.

She's buddy sour. With my buddy-sour horse, I just worked him away from the other horses, and made him do things by himself (i.e. turnout sometimes). He got the idea that it was ok to be away from his buddies. I disciplined him for poor behavior, but was also forgiving. You need to gradually stop this buddy-sourness, and get her in a situation where she's comfortable--but you can train in. Then back it farther and farther away from her safety zone as she builds more confidence.

As far as the breeding goes, I wouldn't breed anything that wasn't a. registered AND b. a good example of the breed. If you want a foal, go buy one! There's less risks of harm to mare and foal, and you're not adding to the already serious overpopulation problem we have here.
