ACC!! Deafness in horses IS from white pigment in the ears!

The researcher saying this is Dr. Allison Stewart from Auburn University

I saw that over on EC. Especially interesting to me given my love affair with all things Gunner. Quick question though... did I ever say it was NOT caused by lack of pigment? I was always told that it was and I didn't think that was a question. Now I may have said there are splashed with only stars who are deaf, but believe it or not they are white in their ears. What we see on the outside doesn't always speak for what's on the inside. GREAT article, thanks for sharing with this board.

No you have always said that you believed that deafness was caused by lack of pigment. It was more of a look your theory is right kind of thing.

I know I am incredibly eager for them to find that darn mutation! There are so many horses that I would pay to have tested just to find out if they are.
