We still do not know what the Grand Jury of Orange County has decided about Keum H. Lee and the horses that nearly died under her care — or I should say, no care. She claimed illness last week, so the prosecutor has given her one more chance to tell her story or they will proceed. The SPCA took the rest of her animals which consisted of goats, chickens and ducks. Lee's husband is a doctor in Brooklyn.

Well, the fact that the DA felony unit after reviewing the case, recommended felony charges and a grand jury was selected must have scared her back into reality. So now she is feining illness while her attorneys scramble to put together some type of defense.

I don't think this one will get swept under the rug but I do think they will try and confuse the watching public as to when it goes to court so as to avoid further gatherings of horse enthusiasts outside the court room.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that there is a judge with a compassionate heart, when it is time for sentencing, and I don't mean compassionate towards her, but towards Suzi and Whiskey.

I think we need to keep putting the pressure on them.....just so they know we ARE watching and keeping tabs on this!!!!

I will lose my mind if that woman gets those horses back, and she's not prosecuted or just gets a slap on the wrist!

Well, they have gotten two letter from me so far. I know that many were sent from this forum alone and some of them were international. That has got to be getting somebody's attention I would hope.

It would be absolutely asinine for them to give those horses back especially given she is refusing to pay the vet bills.

How could they even think about giving this woman those poor horses back??

I know for a fact, here in shasta county, if your animal is impounded, you will NOT get that animal back until you pay ALL fees, including vet bills, and after a certain amount of time said animal will be adopted out if not paid.

Cruelty like the halter being embedded so severely would be a automatic release of the owners rights.

Well, until we all got involved thanks to the link, that is exactly what they were going to do. I don't understand it either. Apparently there is a serious lack of equine concern in that area as well as a very lax judicial system when it comes to animal cruelty.

If you can't afford another halter then at least take off the old one. But these horses were in the care of two doctors, so I don't see money being the issue which makes her refusal to pay the bill even more puzzling.
